I have two rifles in my safe that my grandfather gave me years ago both are Voere long actions, made in Black Forest Germany, Model 7000, Importer: Marketing Unlimited, inc., Yakima, Washington chambered in 243 (now 6mm-284) and 308 Norma Mag.

I'd like to rebarrel both the 6mm-284 it has a 1-12" twist that won't stabilize bullets over 80grs = I hardly ever shoot it the 308 NM has lost its accuracy after over 20 years of me hunting with it.

My question is what cartridge recommendations do you guys have for the 6mm-284 I would like to set it up as a long range 500 - 600 yard coyote - deer hunting rifle and wildcats are ok.

The 308 NM will probably stay 308 NM for nostalgic reasons.

Thanks

What about reboring to. 284 Win? And the other one could be rebored to. 358 Norma Mag, that would be perfect for that rifle.

I reload for everything so ammo is not an issue it is finding brass for say the 257 Weatherby suggested earlier and I have to say I really like this idea except for brass costs.

What about the 25-06 AI or 25-284 or 6.5-284 so I can keep using my 6mm-284 brass.

edit to add:

I have a stainless T/C Prohunter in 25-06 that I bought off a buddy a couple months ago I just sent the barrel to Guntech yesterday to have him shorten the freaking long gangly 28" barrel to 24" so I'd look at 25-06/25-06AI/257 Weatherby

The rebore my 308 NM to 358 NM is an excellent idea who would I contact about doing this or to just find out if it is even possible?

Can my 308 NM RCBS 2 die set be rechambed to 358 NM?

I was going to say a fast .243 but you already have that. Re-barrel it to a faster twist 6-284 or a 6-06 if you like the the .243 caliber or a 6.5-284 or 6.5-06. Both calibers have plenty of slick bullets to choose from and not grossly overkill for coyote.

6.5-284 would make a lot of sense if you want to re-use your brass. The high BC bullets would be good for long range deer size game. It would be my choice.

For a long range coyote/ deer rifle go with a 257 wby. The 308 norma could be rebarreled to one with no other mods then a 25 cal barrel and a chambering job. You can buy horady factory ammo and Weatherly factory ammo with 100 gr Spitzer for between $40 and $45 a box.(same price as empty brass)
