Best Milsurp Handgun!

I am constantly amazed, every time that I pick up my TT33 as to how slim and small it is next to one of my 1911s. You can still find war time Tokarevs in very good condition at inexpensive prices but I can't say the same about the ammo or parts. Ammo is expensive when you could find it and as for parts, most people will have to pony up for a parts gun. For those reasons I had also purchased one in 9mm. Norinco makes one in 9mm but the one that I decided on as one of my daily shooters is the Zastava m70a. It is truer to the original with only the grip being a bit longer. Norinco does this weird thing with the grip that I did not care too much for. The fit and finish for the m70a I find, is better than the Norinco and it's quality far exceeds its $200 price tag for a new pistol. I know a couple of people who has gone this route to keep their mil surps in good condition.

Makarov. Very hard to find in Restricted form and its not cheap. But it's my favourite. Next - Polish Tokarev

Another one to look at, that have been around for a couple years is the Beretta 92s, I don't have one but hear theycare nice shooters, only complaint some might have is the placement of the mag release.

1911A1 Gov.
I can't afford a "milsurp" one so I bought a Norc off EE for $280 shipped.
I'm glad I did because it's an unstoppable tank of a gun that cost next to nothing.
If I had a million dollars I still wouldn't buy a "real" one now. Another Norc and more .45 ACP

+1, I was lucky enough to get the canam govt models unmarked, very cheap accurate as a 1911, just keep going, got a two tone officers model too, nice. If I had a million dollars, I might get a real colt just for fun. Lots of cool guns not enough money.

you are better off shopping north of the border for the surplus - any foreign (nonUS) will most likely have been BATF'd butchered to meet current import regulations, and the ones that haven't been perverted will be high dollar. My southern cousin are amazed that we can buy Toks for US$200, Norcs for even less.
You can get surplus CZ75/85 for under 500, Browning HPs and Beretta 92s for under 600 and the list goes on (up here) and the exotic (like Swiss Lugers) if you have the money. A lot of available southern surplus fall in the prohib class because of barrel length which limits shopping sprees south of the border

Israeli Surplus FN Hi power.

Finish may be beat up but locks up tight, minimal wear to barrel lugs, and even the safety levers are still stiff. You can also find some Mark 3 with Forged frames, these are a bit more slim than the cast frames most Mark 3's have. Triggers are very nice, especially once you remove magazine disconnector

Best milsurp handgun....
