Best milsurp iron sight

I am hoping to attend the milsurp shoot at EOSC at the end of the month. I have been debating what to use.
My eyes are not what they were, so I was handling my options, and IMO the best iron sites seemed to be any of the Russian surplus rifles, LE was also good, Swede M96 was good, K31 or any Mauser, AG42 seemed hard to use. Mostly I dont shoot these much. I was thinking of using SKS as I don't have to buy any expensive ammo and am very familiar with it, like the sights. I have a stash of GP for the K31, but didnt like the sights. Comments and advice welcome

I hear you. My eyes are getting tired. I found that peep sights are much better for me. So, No4 Lee Enfield, M1 Garand... or one of my favorites, Enfield P14. There's something about the P14 sight picture that just works for me.

But, bring an SKS and lots of ammo anyways, because, as you mentioned... sure is cheap to shoot, never mind the score! :)
 
Have had most of these types but, for some reason, I shoot my best groups with Mosins. Combine that with cheap ammo for which the sights are calibrated and you've got a potential winner for a contest with a variety of ranges. Bottom line is pick one you like and practice a lot with it and try to have it well zeroed before the event!

I think you will be happiest with the SKS because of the open sight picture which comes in handy if the targets are closely side by side.
Love the Milsurp shoot put on by the Vernon, BC club, it really shows you what rifles you are good with and where you need improvement.
Not saying that the SKS has more accurate sights, because it dosen't, just that they are easier to use.
 
No vote for the K98...?

Jut kidding the sights are about he only thing I don’t love about those rifles
 
Garand if you shoot M2 ball ammo, the sight is the most adjustable, period.

BUT

The K31's sights are bang on and you have the GP11 ammo (it was made for it man!,...made for it.)

Ross Mk.II** with BSA Martin rear sight? Aperture sight, fully adjustable, long sight radius...
 
The aperture sights on the No.4s are hard to beat (I'd assume the No.5 would be good as well, just haven't had the pleasure yet), and should be easy on the eyes.
 
No. 4 and 5 rear sights have no provision for windage adjustment. Apart from Mk. I pattern, elevation adjustment is approximate.
 
Ross M10 has darn good irons and the longest sight radius in the game. I have never had the good luck to shoot a Garand...they seem well appointed, but less radius than the M10.
Flame away please...but 1st put down the Timmies double double and suck down some US swill.
