Best Modern Single Shot Hunting Rifle

How did this go from current production deer rifles to evey commercial single shot from the last 50 years?

If we're making a spreadsheet, a haenel jager 9 with a 24 inch barrel weighs ~5 lbs...

Kipplauf is the answer for single shot mountain hunting and has been for 125 years

FAIR and sabatti offer a single shot rifle. I haven't handled the sabatti. Some talk highly of them while offers don't. I have been wanting to handle one. The FAIR is a decent gun. I'm not sure of current pricing on a #1 but the Italians will likely be slightly higher in cost and are of a break open design which I prefer myself
TC is said to be coming back but I don't know when Canada will see any new products from them
Henry has a few basic chamberings
After those you've moved to either high dollar guns or synthetic stocked guns like the traditions g2/3 and CVA scout

You could always swap a Boyd's hardwood stock into a blued CVA Scout. They're remarkably well-made, accurate, and have great triggers.

Stepping up, I'd look for a B78/1885 in a suitable cartridge. Love the design. Not lightweight by any means however.

Peak single shot for me is gonna be a Blaser K95. I've wanted one for a long time but they are not the most affordable rifle out there. A svelte 7x57R with a nice Swarovski on top would be extremely light and way too classy for my safe, but a man can dream.

I've owned the Henry single shot in .243 and passed it along pretty quickly. The CVA trigger and overall accuracy was just plain better despite the gun being hideous :)

I've had a few No.1 rifles but never really fell in love with any of them. They all needed some tinkering to shoot well. I still wouldn't say no to one but it would need to be a .35 Whelen, 9.3x62, or 450/400 NE to get me interested.

I love the Ruger no 1 and the “panache” of falling blocks but it is way too heavy to be useful as a stalking gun. It is a gun that serves no purpose except being super cool and collectable.

Best Kipplauf would be the blaser K95 in Stutzen config IMO or Jakele j1 which is as light, short , and handy as a K95 but has 3 rounds .

I presently have the Ruger #1 and a Austrian Kipplauf. A reasonably priced single shot is the Merkel, slightly over $5,000. Lipsey is coming-out with the Ruger #1-A again in the 275 Rigby, with a 24" barrel. It will probably be priced close to $4,000.

I did plenty of stalking with my Ruger no1 rsi in 3006, it’s not that heavy!
K95 is sure nice!
As for Jakele, it ain’t a single shot, not even close to what the op was asking about, may as well start putting in all our favorite rifles lol
Mine would be a bradshaw rotary action rifle… light compact, beautiful, unique, strongest action of all single shot… but it is not what the op was after in is question!

I have been stalking and still hunting with my latest Ruger single shot since 2010 and. It has been a tremendous rifle Taking everything from coyotes to moose .
I do not consider it too heavy or clumsy, in fact none of the RSI's or 1A's I have hunted with were since I started usiīng them in1980.

The goal of Andreas Jakele was to create a repeater that handled like a single shot and that weighted the same. And I can attest he succeeded, which is why I find it an interesting inclusion. It is hard to explain the ergonomics and feeling of a rifle in writing but it feels as good and balanced as my beloved K95 Stutzen.

There are probably multiple reasons of using a single shot rifle, to me it is always about finding the ultimate stalking rifle so weight, length , and ergonomics / speed of shot , and accuracy are my main concern even though I have yet to find a single shot rifle that was not accurate enough.

The Traditions Outfitter G3 stainless single shot is a nice looking rifle that is reasonable affordable. Several different calibers available.

I sold plenty of them while I ran my gun shop, always had positive reviews from customers with no warranty concerns.

I really like the 35 Whelen model.

Stainless steel and synthetic models only though. No blued/walnut as of yet.

Wish they would import the same chamberings that they are available in under the bergara ba13 badge in North America. Would be a nice all weather Kipp

My 1-A wasn't any heavier than other rifles?
