Best non-res SHTF gun?

Some people are completly missing the point here. The idea is having a gun you can have in the car, or truck, and when SHTF, take it, load it, and retreat home, where your restricteds are. Once at home safe and sound, then restrics laws become kind of irrelevant.

I can hardly imagine myself trying to convince two or more LEO's finding my AR in the trunk of my car , that it is for my protection when SHTF..... while they press my face into the road.

Due to the financial situation I have created for myself by purchasing numerous firearms since i received my PAL last month I currently can only afford to keep a Maverick 88 in my trunk, basic pistol grip 18.5" bl model. Eventually I will put something else in there, maybe a Fabarm 14" or anything that can fit nicely into a duffel bag. I figure if I am out, when the S intitially HsTF, I will need to travel back to my supply depot (Home) and I most likely will have to ditch my sedan and walk/bike home. Now traveling with a firearm will probably cause a lot of problems for yourself early in the disaster/pandemic/zombie/warfare situation because trigger-happy LE and MILITARY will be doing everything in their power to maintain calm and ordered cities. A visible firearm will put you in harms way, concealed weapons will be key in the early stages of SHingTF, if you don't fancy yourself getting shot. Now a concealable weapon that can legally be stuffed in a trunk, personally i figure the only choice is a Shotgun with a small barrel, pistol gripped. Although not the most comfortable or accurate to fire, i can hide it under a long coat or in a sack of sorts and it's enough to deter looters and maniacs on my trek to my supplies at home.

good points Danny, how about a SKS with a folding stock? I am not sure anyone would be keeping order for a while, it depends how big and where the disaster is. 70% of all police forces are 9-5 beauracrats, they would have no cars, etc. assuming they came to work. I can't remember the numbers from New Orleans, I think it was under 50% of the police came to work.

We have around 50,000 in the armed forces, reserves are10,000? If it was a nation wide situation, they would have all available people in Ottawa.

in OUR armed forces. In my visions of SHingTF the SPP will have already established a unified North American protection plan, meaning foreign(south of the border) military will be assisting ours in maintaining control throughout the country. lol@50% of the police came to work... because they were all at home loading their high capacity mags and putting m16 parts in their ARs.

On another note... Anyone ever seen 'The Siege'... try packing heat in a city similar to the realistic environment created in that movie.

In my humble opinion, 12ga is a great SURVIVAL gun, as you can have bird shot, buck shot, and slugs, flares, whatever on hand.

For SHTF, I am way too small a human being to consider packing around more than a few shells... How you gonna carry all that ammo?

Just a thought...

SKS hands down. Ride her hard, put her away wet, let her rust, she just doesn't care a keeps right on trucking. Not the most powerful, or accurate rifle in the world, but that thing just refuses to die. Second choice would be a Remington 870 in 12ga, eats the world's most versatile ammo can can be reloaded for if you need "custom" ammo for her. 3rd would be an Enfield in whatever flavor floats your boat.
Check, Check and Check :D You save me a lot of time Rob

L.E. No5, the good old Jungle Carbine - if you can't kill it with 10 rounds of .303 and a bandolier of back up rounds in chargers, something's seriously wrong. The rifle is cheap, fast and hits hard and isn't likely to cause a coronary if spotted in your truck.

(and if all else fails, you CAN still fix bayonet and go out like a man)

I know it's not Black but it is unrestricted and Low Profile.

boltaction 22lr. seriously though, shtf you might not even have a house no more. you might be hoofin it. you can carry 1000 rounds of 22lr on you no problem. try that with a 300wm. lol. I love my 300wm, but it wont be my goto gun in a shtf senario.

I see a lot of mention of enfields, do you guys have some secret caches of .303 brit the rest of us don't know about?

OK it's not a rifle but it is black!

1. I'm guessing by "auto loada" you mean S/A? I would definetly not take a shotgun that is finicky about ammo and being clean and is far more prone to stoppages. A good pump gun with a good guy behind it who is famaliar with it should be able to pump the rounds out almost as fast as a S/A with out all the disadvantages it offers.

2. Let's be realistic in a prolonged firefight with anyone but a single enemy, who is extremely lightly armed must of us wouldn't fare to well at all. So for the majority of two legged vermin the site of a big ol' 12 ga in their face is enough to scare em off. That being said if have a solid semi-auto with high caps is always a comforting thing to have at high ready while patrolling the great canadian wasteland while looking for those un-opened bottles of johnny walker blue/lagavulin 30 yr old ;)

3. My list would be

870 wingmaster or police/Mossberg 590

Ruger mini30/sks/858 (ammo is cheap and easy to stock you can't justify not having one of the three, although i'd be leaning to the 858 because i'd have 8 30rd mags bombed up and ready to go)

.22 bolt action (the more realiable and simple it is the better)

.30 cal Bolt action (be it .303 lee enfield a rem 700 .308 or .30-06)
whatever you want as long as the ammo is fairly common it's probably best not to have some obscure magnum caliber that you only stock one box for.
