Best non-res SHTF gun?

2. mosseberg 590spxA1
3.CZ or SKS

Benelli rocks for many reasons. I suggest you take a look this high quality piece of eng.

Feels good, light, easy to strip. MOST MOST important it has ARGO gas system. It will shoot what ever .223 ammo you can get. Just feed the big, argo will adjust the pressure so it cycles properly. I think it is more reliable then a sks.

12 ga, is good cuz you can reload on your own with what ever you want.

The ultimate shtf, would be a flint lock or something super basic.

On a side note...maybe we actually will find guns/gear laying on the streets from all the Ricky Rambos out there :)

Personally I will be staying as low key as possible, armed with probably a .22 or 12g and would rather sneek past someone then open up on them.

For the almost the same price of an CZ 858 I think I would pass. Plus handgun store baught ammo is way more expensive and not as aboundent as the X39 rounds. As a matter of fact the X39 round is the most produced center fired round in the world.
But then again a mostly plastic folding (don't know if it's a pistol but dosn't have the range of a rifle) gun that is only worth $300 to $400 max I guess would be worth more than a rock or a stick. Naa I would pick an SkS over this or better yet an Enfield (for King & Country!).

Well one thing to consider if you are prepared say with a year's worth of food etc is that some douche bag who didn't bother preparing but has a predator mindset and a few tools might come knocking.... or not!

Personally I don't look forward to surviving while everyone else starves around me....but I guess if you are prepared enough you could enlist the right kind of people to join your tribe and increase the skill set and numbers of the tribe.

Mmmmmhhhh, roasted goose and pigeon by the campfire with a side of old cow corn every day would be a great meal for the family....LOL......Best to stock up on Salt, Pepper, and Spices, because your going to need them.

I can't imagine only one firearm as an option but if it came down to it in the end the .22lr has a lot going for it.

Hunting won't be about fair chase when the grocery stores are empty...

I have never seen a cop with a high capacity magazine. I have seen them with standard capacity mags.
 
If we're talking about hypothetical SHTF scenarios.. why are you limiting yourselves to Non restricted? Because when all hell breaks loose it's going to matter?

Needs - Light, high capacity, easily accessible ammo. Just got a nice little Swiss CQB that's going to be my new all-star.

Maybe a good 10/22.. ammo is cheap, available, high cap mags, light rifle, some nice short barrels out there. You don't need to be slinging .454's around at things/people. I guarantee that if you pock mark someone with a dozen .22 longs they'll f*ck off in a hurry.

Armageddon isn't going to be like the movies.. leave your rocket launchers and claymores at home.

If society really ever does break down though and lawlessness ensues, where would the sense be in obeying mag capacity or any other firearm law?
 
Most people are aiming for Non-Res before a crisis due to restrictions and cost of some firearms. Won't do you much good to plan on using a pistol if you can't ever practice with one.

You can take a Non-Res rifle to any gravel pit to practice but you can't do that with an AR unless you want to go to jail.

Well, if it had to be non-restricted and I could only have (1) firearm, then I'd likely pick a Win. Model 94 Trapper in .357 Mag. Light weight, easy to carry, and enough gun for (2) and (4) legged predators alike. A secondary choice might be a short barrelled SR-22 with high cap mags and a copious supply of CCI Velocitors or Remington Yellow Jackets.

I'd agree... I'd be carrying restricted, concealed, and trying to fit in with all the other sheeple, or trying to get to higher ground (depending on the SHTF scenario of course).

Either way, weeks into a SHTF scenario my resume for position of 'Master Blaster' will be one of the first!

point taken. what i'm trying to get at is i would much rather avoid every confrontation possible. good people, i'd be more than happy to help and share with. i would hope that if the S well and truly did HTF, the excrement of society would be naturally selected out of existence - with out needing too much human intervention.

You don't think first responders and the police would have better things to do with the little manpower and resources they have available? Please, you give them waayyy too much credit.

If Katrina is any barometer of a SHTF scenario, then we could suspect that some of those LEO's would simply desert the force to protect their own families and say hearty "F*ck You!" to the rest of society, others to join the looters and malcontents, and the remaining brave officers to stay at their posts to live up to their sworn oath. That leaves precious few to do the work of many.

If anything, you might possibly see co-operation with armed citizenry who chose to help maintain law & order through neighbourhood watch type situations. This is well documented in the aftermath of Katrina. I have no doubt it could potentially be the case here.
