Best non-res SHTF gun?

12 gauge- 870
5.56 - tavor
7.62x39 - cz858
7.62x51- maybe xcr-m or RFB as long as you never need spare parts!!

but i would keep any one of the top 3 in my truck as a SHTF travel gun.
 
People can pick whatever they want for non-restricted SHTF...

I'll pick whatever I have ammo for and run with that. A gun with ammo with always beat a gun with no ammo.

good point, i have over 500 rounds of 44 mag at hand. if i had to make it last a lifetime i could, with the knowing how to build traps you can survive in a natural disaster as long as you need. the gun is only for protection. just how i see it anyway. other people might want to stock 10000 plus rounds of ammo.

If SHTF, anything you can get your hands on really
Bolt actions, levers, pumps, break action, air rifles, starter pistols, airsoft stuff, replicas, BB guns.
 
Some kind of 12 gauge is a must if and when the shtf. There are tens of thousands of basements and closets right across this nation filled with ammo. An 870 might be the best choice as nearly everyone, except for perhaps me and one or two other Canadians, can put their hands on one in short order if they need another one in a hurry.

Oh, and if the s does htf so do the pins in the sks mags right? I'm sure thats in the rules somewhere.
 
well i think i would take a rifle in 308 for game larger than coyotes. like deer wolves and for animal protection. then i would also want a ruger 10/22 for small game and when i dont want to be heard!
 
I would say all around the M14, however ammo is heavier than the 5.56 but its also harder hitting :p The firearm is durable, parts are available etc etc.
