Best non restricted black rifle for 3 gun

I don't know about you, but I shoot matches to see different people using different kit to it's best ability, not everyone showing up with the exact same stuff as everyone else.

You don't shoot to compete or have fun yourself?

The OP has plenty of choices for a NR for three gun. From the SKS to the Swiss Arms and everything in between. His budget and goals will make the better choices obvious.

that is the only reasons I shoot really along with hunting to put food on the table.

shooting a match is a differnt story as you entered a competition where there should be an equal playing field........It would be like entering the olympics for hurdles and some guys have to jump them all (5 rnd mag) next guy only has to jump every second one (10rnd mag) and the rest only have to jump every third one (Beowulf mag)................you can make up a lot of lost time only having to do half or a third of the work, doesn't make you any better because we know mags are not going to be pinned in this hypothetical real situation that is being simulated for a comp.

im thinking what he said earlier. shotguns don't all have the same capacity and neither do handguns if someone has a .45, so why should rifles be different? different set ups allow different capacity's.

I have a sig P220 in 45 with the single stack and guess what, you can buy 10rnd mags wich is the same for most handguns. All semi auto shotguns have the same round capacity limited by law, pumps are slower so you get more rounds. If you want to use a pump rifle go ahead an put a 100rnd drum on it (I'd actually like to see how fast someone could get with one and if they could compete with a semi)

What are the rules of the three gun you shoot, with respect to rifle mag capacity?

different set ups allow different capacity's.

You said it...

Brian46 is just arguing for the sake of arguing. To make matter worse, his argument sucks......

most .45's don't hold ten rounds, various length shot guns have various capacity's, and various RIFLES, have various capacity's.......Get used to it.

According to your way of thinking, 3 gun should be a bunch of guys all shooting the exact same three guns and seeing who can do the best. Thats not how it works:p:p:p:p The goal is to perform the best you can with YOUR kit, and YOUR setup, some have beowulf mags in thbat set up, and some have lar 15 mags and some have just pmags, this is all part of the fun.

that is currently how is is because everyone is taking the advantage of any kit that has an edge over the other, more rounds allowed in a semi than the other guy is a big advantage (more reloads cost time). Most of the matches I go to almost everyone is shooting the same 3 guns because the rules are not equal for every gun.

As far as "fairness"'goes, unless you specify exactly what gear can be used it will never be "fair". It won't even be fair then because some shooters are more skilled than others.
skill is the competition I thought?, not who takes advantage of the rules better and does half the mag changes as someone else to get a better time/make up for lack of skill

What rifle do you use for three gun?

It's a game. The rules are the same for all. All shooters work within them. That is the definition of fair.

It seems as though you wouldn't be happy unless everyone had the exact same kit, including their shoes.

So does this mean that I am cheating if I use an open top mag pouch like a HSGI taco, and you use a mag pouch with a velcro closure???

The entire point of the competition it to test yourself and your gear against others, why do you insist on making it like stock car racing? The fact of the matter is this: Gear choices make a serious impact on your ability to perform in the game/sport, if this upsets you so much then maybe the game/sport isn't for you. Perhaps you missed the part where the entire point is to take advantage of any kit and skill you can to get the best score. If your goal is to fight a fair fight, then your not on the right track anyway. If you find yourself in a fair fight.....Your tactics suck!

Again according to you, it's not fair (or "sporty" enough) until EVERY shooter is using the exact same LBE, and the exact same rifle (with the same ammo and the same twist), and the exact same mags, and using the same holster, and using the same shot gun, and using the same pistol, and the same pants and the same boots, and the same gloves, and the same eye pro etc..... see where this is going?

depending on rules and range either Sig or HK

nothing to do with cheating or tactics, remember shooting is what I do for fun which was already posted......

If you can beat me in time with the same number of mag changes you are more skilled than me, If you can beat me with better accuracy you are more skilled than me, use the rules of the match or our firearms laws to be quicker you are only cheating yourself in to thinking you are better as in a real situation all rules go out the window.

3 gun was around before the pistol and beo mags and you saw lots of different guns at every match being run fast, now if you actually want to compete you have pretty much one choice if beo mags are allowed to stay competetive or just continue shooting for fun like me.

Okay, I see your point here. I can even see how this could get annoying. Your simply referring to magazine capacity limits. The way you wrote it, it seemed as if you thought every one should be using the same everything. My head still says the game has nothing to do with our retarded Canadian Firearms laws, and 3gun law says you can use any magazine you want, it's Canadian law that restricts you, not 3gun law. If that makes any sense.

Let me ask you this...If everyone were using regular capacity 30 round magazines, would you feel the same way if someone showed up using a bunch of 40 Round Pmags

If you're just shooting for fun, why do you care?

Organize your own 3G match, set the rules to deal with your concerns and let us know what you go with and how it turns out.

I've been running 3G matches for the last 5 years. It has to be safe and fun and everyone needs the same opportunity to do well. I do not restrict gear beyond the legal requirements. Next year we will be introducing divisions to keep like equipment grouped together. Magazine capacity will not be one of the factors in the divisions.

Okay, so to get this straight, your simply talking about MAGAZINE restrictions.....and the capacity we are restricted to if we choose to use a rifle other than a STANAG mag accepting one?
i thought that was pretty clear?

if you could run any mag why not just run a beta drum, most rifles you see at a match have them available unlike how our gun laws allow a window of opertunity only with the stanag mags.
