Hi!

I've been considering a JR 9mm carbine purchase but I'm wondering if that's the best bang for your bucks! seems to have good reviews and cabelas has it for around 1,000 bucks

Anything else I should consider before making my choice?

SUb 2000, ASR, CX4, Thuron Defense all fall in the close to your budget range.... The JR is a nice gun though... and they have excellent customer service that will ship to Canada ! (HUGE BONUS)

I have a Beretta CX4 storm and its absolutely awesome. I got mine for a killer deal off $599.99 on a blow out sale. Put a Bushnell red dot and its accurate as can be.

Beretta Cx4 is my choice. Add a red dot and it's perfect, although the iron sights work fine, they dont' compare to putting a red dot on it. I have two of them, and they have thousands and thousands of rounds through them, although I also used the AZZ####h Arms upgrade on them. Everyone loves shooting them, it's kinda like a .22LR on steroids. No recoil. accurate, pro mags work fine in them...

I love my JR Carbine ! Stretched it out to 100m with a red dot and could consistently hit a torso sized target with 124gr Ammo. The only down side I found on mine is the direct blowback makes it a dirty little #####, so you have to clean it up more often. Other than that I just LOVE it.

I pimped it out a little bit and it looks gorgeous IMO

My 9mm JR Carbine is reasonably accurate and functions reliably -

Triggers can vary from decent to awful. Mine was awful. I put in the Sierra Pappa kit and my groups shrank to unexpectedly impressive levels.

The only other carbine that has caught my eye is a Czech one that I saw advertised at Kellys. Wood n Blue rifle that looked to take 1911 mags. I'd like to find more info on that thing..

I've been debating getting another 9mm carbine myself, I had a sub2k gen 2 and sold it because of its ergonomics didn't jive with me, found that I was bunched up trying to shoot it and the cheek rest was uncomfortable to shoot as well. I'm waiting for the NR CZ Scorpion Carbine thats in the works from IRUNGUNS.

So it's cx4 or jr carbine so far... leaning towards the jr still as it's slightly cheaper and from what I can tell more customizable. I like the look of them with the carry handle and forward triangular sight.. anymore opinions?

I like the BRS, but there isnt a cheek weld, and sights are blocky. Proprietary mags are $80 when in stock. And the company won't sell directly to consumers. I tried, they will only deal with Tactical Imports.

Id love to say that its a contender, but reliability and compactness are its only features...

Yah the CX4 isn't the slightest bit customizable... The JR on the other hand totally is. Takes AR freefloat handguards, most pistol grips, commercial buttstock, AR triggers, AR muzzle devices and it's pretty ambidextrous if that matters to u. My only complaint with the JR so far is it makes a weird springy sound when u fire, and once u getbit customised the way u want it; it starts to wiegh ALOT compared to lighter carbines like the CX4, ASR, SUB etc. Shot a CX4 once, the lop is like an SKS. It's short, not friendly for tall shooters unless u shim it to be longer... The irons suck, and are permanently in the way. And the trigger sucks. and because of its light weight and layout, i noticed it was very jumpy when fired. That being said, the gun was reliable, sort of comfy, had awesome ergos and it was very compact.
