You are the man, very well said. For most of the 10-22 owner, they all know how much they had put into the gun to make it work nicely. Out of the box never come with 10-22. Go for Marlin and you are set.

C'mon guys...he asked for the best. He asked for accurate. He asked for the most reliable. He asked for value.

If you answer the actual questions he asked, you will see that the Ruger is not the answer.

Best? Thompson Center hands down.
Accuracy? You know as well as I do that the ruger out of the box (as he is looking for) has crappy accuracy compared to the Marlins, Rems, and T/C's
Function? The ruger works every bit as good as the others, good mag but crappy that theres no last-shot hold open.
Value? Lets see...I can spend $300 on a 10/22...then another $300 trying to make it shoot as well as a $200.00 597 does out of the box.

Seriously, based on his requirements, the 10/22 is not the gun to buy. The 10/22 is great if you like to mod...I'll give you that. But WHY is it that everytime somebody posts "What would be the best choice for _______" The 10/22 guys ALWAYS try to shove the 10/22 down the posters throat?

The ONLY thing the 10/22 does better than any other gun is cost money. If you want to tinker and build a custom with no more real effort or skill than ordering parts from aftermarket suppliers? The 10/22 is the easiest route to go. Not the most rewarding mind you...but the easiest.

I purchased my 10/22 when I was 16, I am now 35, which makes the rifle approaching it's second decade of shooting.

While there are accessories galore, I have never felt the need to change the stock, barrel, trigger or anything else.

IMO, I could not have spent my money more wisely than spending it on a Ruger 10/22.
 
i have a Marlin bolt .22 with a bushnell scope that I can shoot playing cards with at 100 yards, and a 10 /22 with a Bell Red dot sight I can shoot cards at about 60 yards with...

I say buy 2 .22 there cheap..

for shear fun buy the 10/22 its a semi automatic..you can take your time and line up your shots or if you feel like it unload everything.

If you can shoot the edge of a playing card at 100 yards with any consistency that's truly remarkable!!! :eek:

So based on your criteria above the AK is inferior to other rifles simply based on the fact that it has no last shot hold open? I guess a Mini 14 would be a better choice as it has a last shot hold open.

Perhaps the accuracy of the 10/22's you've owned or shot was poor. However 40 years of successful sales and many many satisfied 10/22 owners would disagree. I am in the same boat as Effinggoof in that I run my 10/22's stock(as far as components. One of my rifles has a butler creek stock, the other is 100% stock.) and the accuracy is just fine. It is possible that I got a rifle tha shoots better than most. Somehow I doubt I was that lucky twice. As both my rifles shoot well. Come to think of it five other friends of mine have stock rifles as well and they all shoot very well.

The T/C, Marlins, and Rems are all functional pieces. For the money I'd say its a toss up between the Rem and the Ruger. My only compaint about the Rem is the crappy mags. Although the Ramline mags look pomising.

Are you directing that comment towards me? My comments are not an "attack" on anything other than unfounded claims backed up by personal experiences. Its one thing to comment about your experiences. Its quite another to proclaim that your experiences are gospel.
