Best "overall" hunting scope?

I've got four scopes with 30 mm tubes, one is a Swarovski, one is a Burris, one is a Sightron III, and the last is a Bushnell 4500....in low light the Swarovski totally blows the other three away for brightness. I can look at a dark bush line that appears to be totally black to my eye and with the Swarovski I can make out individual branches on the trees. Maybe the brightness and optical advantage with the 30mm scopes comes in the higher price ranged scopes.

No question that high end optics appear brighter for the most part but this has everything to do with quality of glass and coatings resulting in higher light transmission. The exact same comparison you made could be made with 1" tubes.

Zeiss Diavari 2.5-10 X 42. The ultimate do everything high quality hunting scope...........price tag is $2K +, though. Second choice for me is the Leupold 3.5-10 Vari X III, have several of these and a few Zeiss.

I have a 2.5x10-50 on my BLR and for crisp/clear clarity, is sure works for my tired eyes.
There's an old Bausch & Lomb 3x9-50 fine cross hair reticle with the command post.
Another fine quality scope that works for me.
So much so, I didn't replace it with the new Zeiss.
Wasn't enough of a difference and I prefer the fine x hairs.

When Bushnell discontinued the 6500 Elite 1.25X8X32 and a big surface had them @ 375.00 a piece plus a voucher of 75.00 each to be refunded by Bushnell, i bought the 6 last ones, ( at 300.00 a crack it is the deal of the century) and i have to say for a hunting scope it is one of the best, having a generous 5.5 inch eye relief, they just are great, i am keeping preciously those 6 scopes for my working rifles, got one on both my main hunting rifles for this year, a Scout Steyr 308 and a Benelli R1 338 mag... JP.

Most of my hunting career I used Leupold, however for the past 10 years I made a 180 degree turn, now owning nothing but Zeiss and one Swarvoski. I find the zeiss optics are sharper and brighter than the leupold product, therefore; that is why zeiss is mounted on my rifles. Low light conditions is when big bucks appear, therefore zeiss is the best that I can afford to pursue my passion.
