Looking to buy a chronograph for reloading. Where's the best place to get one and any suggestions on model/make would be helpful.

Thanks.

I bought a Shooting Chrony Master F1 from Wholesale Sports...it has the remote readout which is good to have but is a bit more expensive. It is a basic chrony that gives the velocity but doesn't average them or anything else. It is made in Canada which is good if anything goes wrong.
You will also need a sturdy tripod to set it up.

If you intend to use it on rifles only, take a look at this:

No closing of the firing line to install it and you can verify the accuracy and the speed at the same time saving you some bullets. I checked it several times against my CED ( that I keep for handguns) and the measures are almost identical. Less risk to shoot it too.

If only for handguns the CED with the infrared option would be my first choice. One of my friends has the Chrony, and there are a lot of unregistered shots with it... The Oehler is the "gold standard" since it verifies the measure with a3rd window but too expensive.

Thanks for the link to magneto speed...that looks like the ticket! Do you have the V1 or V2??? Wondering if the v2 is worth the extra $100???

I just bought a second Oehler 35P direct from Oehler, and highly recommend them. Yes they are a little pricey, but worth every penny. I have 3 different chronys and they will change velocities of known loads depending on lighting conditions, sometimes up to 200 fps, so in my estimation they are worthless. If you only ever buy one chronograph, save your money and spend it on an Oehler 35P, you won't ever regret it, but you sure as hell will regret wasting your money on the other junk that's out there. The 35P is the standard by which all other chronographs are judged, so why not get the 35P. JMHO

Just checked online and it says 575 complete. How much to your door with duty and shipping? Just curious. Not against getting one if they were in the 6-700 dollar range all in to Canada.

I just bought the Beta Master model. Great service and quick delivery. There are more elaborate (and more expensive) options out there, but this one will do me fine.

Hey Ted / why not.....found quite a few reviews online with guys shooting their BR rigs with the magnetospeed with no difference in POI while shooting.....

Good to know that hanging a weight on the muzzle of a rifle has no effect on point of impact or accuracy. Must be true.... it's on the Internet. :runaway:

I am with Ted on this one, why do we free float barrels? Why do we bed actions and the chamber sections of barrels? I highly doubt all the advertising hype from magneto speed that says everything shooters have learned over the last century is wrong. Hanging something off the end of your barrel will change harmonics, drastically.

I have a crony, you can have it for shipping as I don't use it anymore.....its only been shot once.....thats all it took....

I could write a book about crony defense, but it seams they are easier to shoot and kill then most would like to think......

CED M2. I have been using mine for a little over 1/2 a year and it is working well so far. Mind you it relpaced a Chrony so anything looks stellar compared to that.
And buy directly from the manufacturer, there are enough middlemen in the firearms industry. I believe mine was $327CAD shipped with case and software.

I would normally agree but by the looks of it this thing hardly weighs anything, I like the idea and i'll do my own test.....i'll let you know what I find out....even if it turns out im wrong!

giving up accuracy for a accurate reading of the speed of the bullet...............might be priceless......

So after I have done all of my load developement and found the most accurate load in my rifle, whats another 5 shots with the crony on the barrel so I can program my dope sheet? I don't really see the importance of knowing the speed of the less accurate loads in my rifles
