I have always shot 160, and recently 180 gr in my 300 RUM, and have had amazing accuracy with IMR 7828. I built up these small, fast loads to shoot the 1000 yard deer, offhand, while standing on 1 foot, in a crossbreeze, with ease. Well, I'm older and wiser now, and that just never happened, and now I know better. I would like to build a heavier bulet load and zero my rifle at 100 where I'm seeing the deer, not 300 so I have to do the math backwards to take the head off a grouse with my rediculously overpriced 24x scope.
So now I'll get to the point, what powder do you use for the heavier bullets? IMR 7828 seems to be out of stock everywhere, I'd like to get MOA at 100, what powder do I try first? I have found the 300 RUM to be most accurate near the top of the powder range with the small bullets, is it the same with 220 gr?
