Best powder/pellets for the Muzzle loader hunt?

I am using White Hots, 2 pellets CCI 209M primers and 240gr. Hornady XTP in a Hornady sabots in my Wolf.
Sighting in this year at 50 yards hit a 3" dot, at 100 yards hit the same 3" dot twice about 1" highter than at 50 yards and that is good enough for me where I hunt. Did not clean the bbl between shots. I did clean the bbl before putting in the hunting charge.
Left the charge in all week and then touched it off without any issue at the end of the week. did not check accuracy with that shot. Did not see any deer at all.
I am also going to try BH 209 this coming summer.

TC Impact, loaded with 240 grain XTP projectiles with a mid range charge of BlackHorn 209 powder.

This year I lent the rifle to a friend & he got a deer with it. Nice exit hole & obviously enough power even with a mid range charge of powder.

Cheers

When I use my lucky buck stalker I use 2 50/50 777 pellets and a 270 gr platinum power belt. My 4 largest bucks I've shot have fallen to this load from 8' to 100 yards or so.
When I use my cva eclipse mag I use 3 50/50 777 pellets and usually a 338 gr platinum Power belt. However those are getting hard to find so ill use the 270 gr in both soon

When I had inline muzzleloaders, I gave up on Pyrodex and switched pretty much exclusively to 777 pellets; far fewer problems with inconsistent accuracy or ignition. But a few years back I said goodbye to all those new-fangled scoped gizmos, and now use traditional side-lock guns only, always with real Goex blackpowder.

Got great accuracy with the 777 Pellets, they do absorb moisture, had one issue in cold, switched to BH 209, accurate also, definitely cleaner..

My old Remington 700ml any black powder loose or pellets but my new CVA only blackhorn 209 or I need a air hammer to load sabot after 1st shot.

Well, whatever 120 is in my t/c powder measure. Happy now?

It's a safety issue chisholm & that's why I pointed out your mistake. Rather than being snarky, a polite comment by you noting your mistake would have been more appropriate.

I'll leave it at that.

I have been running Blackthorn 209 and a 250 gr Barnes TMZ in my Prohunter for over three years now and would not change if you paid me. Seating the tenth bullet on the powder charge, feels like seating the first due to no crud ring like the Pyrodex pellets are famous for.

My apologies, I was having a long day when I made that comment and I was a bit pissy without my coffee! I realize you were raising a possible safety concern and I took it as a guy trying to nitpick or be a know it all.

No worries, I hear ya & completely understand misinterpreting my intent in my comment. I think the whole issue boils down to neither of us wanting a guy to mistakenly load their muzzle loader with the wrong amount of powder!

And I think we would both agree that the BlackHorn 209 powder is AWESOME!

The scary thing is just how easily that could happen, caused by this type of confusion, i.e. volume vs. weight.

And I think we would both agree that the Black...powder is AWESOME!

Fixed it, for all the traditionalists among us...:)

Never had an issue with triple sevens and 209 primers...... in fact, a couple of years ago I was forced to remove the primer and leave Bp in my safe and it fired out of the gate six months later......

The first muzzleloader I shot was a guy who hasn't shot his in 10+ years. He handed me a cap and said "I think it's still loaded from the last time I went hunting. Check it." I honestly thought he was joking. Well didn't that gun go off with a beautiful grey cloud of smoke. Ever since then I've enjoyed muzzleloader. Got my own as soon as I was old enough.
