Hi guys, I am thinking of a 1911 .45 ACP as a Christmas gift for myself. :p

Since it's a gift, it should be something nicer, so Norinco is out(not to say they are not good, shooting-wise, just the ones we get has really poor workmanship compared to the ones they sale anywhere else), then I don't want to break the bank.
The best I could find is a SR1911 @ C$750. Anything else? Thanks in advance!

id be interested as well

I would pickup two norinco government 1911s... Or a used s&w, used colt, or a Remington r1 for that price.

I currently have a old Remington, old colt, and a norinco. I like the norinco more so for its value, but you can't argue with a colt.

I bought the SR1911 and it is a great value. Like you I didn't want to break the bank. It's not the tightest fit but I've ran a couple thousand rounds threw it and haven't had an issue beyond a sticky mag when I first got it. I've heard of the front sight breaking off but I haven't experienced anything like that.
It won't be my only 1911 as I have my eyes set on a Sig Scorpion, but value for the money the Ruger almost can't be beat.

Yet mechanically are surpassed by a $500 gun (sam)

Ordered! Great deal, Thanks!
Not that others' suggestions are not good, but like I said, since it's Christmas gift to self, the "look" factor is indeed important. I just like the stainless steel. Such a beauty!

Thanks all the gun nutz for your suggestions! Christmas does come very early for me. Lol..

Thank you for your order, you will be more then happy, the SAM pistols are great for the price point as are norincos, but the ruger and sigs are will worth there money.
I also own a sam, in 9mm .

How's the SR1911 mechanically surpassed by the SAM? I would be interested in finding your views since every SR1911 reviewes have nothing but good things about them and one of the best bang for the buck.

Now we are derailing but...

I have owned and shot numerous ruger 1911's and all had very loose tolerances. Slide to frame fit being the most glaring. Could even rattle them..

SIG also mass produces 1911's but are much "tighter" guns.

Yes that's true the SR1911s do have very loose tolerances. I know because I have read about it before picking one up myself. Mine rattles a little as well when you shake it. However, I'm very satisfied with what you get for the price and accuracy.

I haven't handled a SAM but I have no regrets with my SR1911... so far ;)

Good choice on the Ruger. I have that one and a SAM 9mm. If I could keep only one I'd keep the Ruger. It's got that extra curb appeal.

I bought mine before the prices shot up. One of the sponsors has/had a used Commander version I've been debating on. Hopefully it has since sold..

I sold my Norc 1911 when I got my SR1911. The Norc was tigher and had several upgraded parts but in the end holding the Ruger felt much better.

I bought mine used on EE so I have no complaints really. Well one actually I don't know if it was my particular one but I had to file down the disconnector quite a bit as it was making a clikcing noise when pulling and releasing the trigger.

After a long research, it was too high and was making the noise when it moved inside the disconnector notch on the slide.

The clicking noise was especially bad on my kimber .22 slide. My Norc did not make any click noise with kimber 22. Anyways after filing it down it stopped making the noise so I'm a happy camper.
