I'm looking to replace the mags that came with my Norc "Police Model" 1911. The gun itself has never malfunctioned once, but sometimes the front of the flimsy magazine follower shifts enough to get past the nub of the slide stop (last shot hold open). What brand of affordable, standard grade magazines would you recommend that have a reputation of functioning well in Norinco (or all) 1911's? I think I'd like to try the contoured follower this time around. I've read some good things about Metalform, any good?

Also, it seems easier to find 8 round 1911 magazines than 7 rounders. I've read a lot about 8 rounds magazines causing issues because of how compressed the spring gets, and how tightly the cartridges are packed inside. Is it best to look for 7 rounders only, or would you recommend getting an 8 rounder to use like a 7?

Thanks!

Affordable and decent = ACT mags. They are hit and miss as far as being "great" magazines. I have some that work and some that fail at hold open. I haven't tried to fix them though. My preference is Chip McCormick 10 rounders. Really, the other end of the spectrum from what you are asking for. As for 7 rounders, I have not tried any. I'm an 8 or 10 person. Good luck in your search.

Firstly, file off the offending portion of the Norkie mag followers.

My norkie mags are as reliable as my original Colts and McCormick Shooting Stars. Actually my Shooting Stars are slowly being converted to Tripp 7 round springs/followers, as I noticed some double feeds with a few of these 28 yr old Shooting Stars.

I've never had an issue with Mec-Gar mags.. I have both 7 rounders (for Wild bunch) and 8 rounders. Mec-Gar Is OEM for SIG's (at one point, I don't know if they still are)

1911's of all varieties tend to be fussy about their mags. If you shoot a small amount most mags will do. If you shoot a lot then the higher quality mag's will tend to last longer. I have tried McCormack, Nighthawk, Remington and Para. They all work well in my Ruger. Remington were the cheapest. The Paras are a bit tight and don't drop free but still function well. Just remember in the 1911 world what will work in one gun may not work in a different gun so it can be a bit of a crap shoot.

Dlask 8 rnd magazines and they work just fine in my Norc 1911A1 clone.
4 for $99 pls ship and tax , straight from Dlask.
