Best rifle/scope combo $1000

Remington currently has a rebate and Bushnell as well . . . perhaps to the end of this month . . . kind of a Black Week.

I think it would get you decent quality and decent accuracy.

I would get a Tikka T3 Battue Lite, QD rings, and a VX-2 or VXR scope and ask mom for the extra $500! Then you have a fine scoped rifle that also has a great set of fibre optic sights for close-in work.

Your old 760 in 30/06, what do you mean by not a shooter?
As a rule they where reliable/accurate shooters and even better if you reload.
But if you just have to get something else, the vanguard with good optics will work fine.

It is accurate fairly accurate, and to be honest I haven't even tried shooting it past 100 yards. It grouped pretty good and that was just resting on the tailgate. It only has a 3x non adjustable scope , I just didn't feel like it had the ability to reach out far , a perfect bush gun it is though. Maybe I should just upgrade the scope ?

Thanks for all the input everyone , I think I've decided to wait till spring. Staring at a new rifle all winter will kill me.
I didn't think there would be so little options but I guess the scope is the big problem to the budget.
The weatherby seems okay but currently in a warranty situation with my shotgun and waiting to see how that turns out before I jump on a gun room full of weatherbys

If you are looking to spend more on a scope and still have what by all reports is a good shooter don't forget the Ruger American. They come in at about $500 which leaves lots of room for a scope and rings. If you go with a Predator in .308 they come with a rail meaning you don't need to spend on bases.

The American comes with Weaver type bases.

Currently there is a 100 dollar mail in rebate on VX3s, so with a bit of aggressive price checking bringing a vx3 home for 500 is a real possibility. That sort of ups the ante on what can be done for a grand.

Weatherby S2, Howa, or Zastava in a flat shooting calibre, 270, 308, 300wby (my choice). You would have "eyeball" scopes to see which you prefer. VX2's are good, Bushnell Elite series, or higher end Vortex. I'm partial to Nikon Monarch 3's. Excellent scopes. I have VX3's, Zeiss HD5's, Monarch 3's and you can't tell the difference in optical quality. The Zeiss has the edge in zoom ratio & when dusk approaches.
Weatherby has rifle "packages" that include rifle, scope, & case. You could also buy a used rifle and get a nice scope. All kinds of options available.
