Best round for Coyote

For the 6.5x55, try the Horn 123grSST @ 3000fps. Zeroed at 250m, 2.9" high at 150m, 3.4" low at 300m. A 25-06 with 110gr Vld-X @ 3140FPS. is very slightly flatter shooting than the 6.5x55 123 SST with same 250m zero. I've used a .17 Remington on Coyotes, and it killed just fine, just keep to 300m and under.

My choice would be 220 Swift because I already have one in pre-64 M70 with a 15x Lyman Super Targetspot scope and a fair bit of ammo and an endless amount of good brass.

A 22-250 is not that far behind the 220 Swift and would make a great coyote round as well.

The .25/06 Remington with 85 grain Nosler Ballistic Tips @ 3,550 fps is an excellent Coyote rig if you wanna' really reach out and touch 'em from a long ways out.

The 22 class works good inside 300 yards. Windy days raise hell with the small light bullets. The op said he owned a 6.5 swede and a 270. I think if he handloads the 6.5x55 would be just fine. Good practice for deer season. My 2 cents.

.222 has worked fine for me for over 45 years out to about 300 meters , but I have used lots of others as well.
Of I were to build a new short to medium range gun it would be in .223 for sure.
