I have recently bought a Ruger M77 mkII in 300 Win mag. This is my first rifle and i need opinions on a scope i have $500 to spend what would you recommend
thanks in advance vince

I have used Leupolds for many years and never had to use there warranty
"life time" to any owner. I have a LPS and it good but for the money a 2.5-x 8VX111 would do the job for you and do it well

In the $500 ballpark, there are a lot of choices out there. I agree with the Bushnell 4200 suggestion. Another worthy consideration would be the Mueller Tac II (3.5-10 x 44). I'm actually thinking of picking that one up for my own .300 Win Mag hunting rifle. The guy at White Falls will deliver it to you for about $500, all in.

Bushnell 3200 elite. Cost ~$250.00

I have two 300 WM's and both are topped w/ this scope. No problems. Save the other 250 for something else that you need... Boots, bino's?

Elite 3200 also comes in a 4-12x40 which is the scope I like to use, about $379.00 if I remember, the I used Luepold rings and base and they were $69.00.FS

3-9 x 40 Leupold VX11

That is all you need to know. If you have the money to spend, go for quality, you will never regret it.

If you have $500 in your pocket, look for a VXIII in the EE, you might just get lucky.

Leupold VX2 or VX3 gets my vote also. I have the older Vari-X III 3.5-10x40 on my Sako m75 300WM since it was new in 1997/1998-never lost its zero, until I changed it with my reloads in 2005.

As mentioned look in the EE for a deal on scopes.

A 3-9x40 or a 4-12x40 in a VX2 or 3.5-10x40 in the VX3 are my reccomendations-but new VX3 are @ least $700+
VX2 scopes for under $500

$500 to spend? buy a Leupold VXII 3-9x40 LR duplex
For that kind of money the 4200 elite is a better scope, (and at $364 for the 3x9x40 a bargain). optically on the same level as a VX-III or better. That being said I would buy the Leupold because it is generally more compact and lighter.
