Best semi auto for targets.

Here's an exemple of what you can do with a T/C R-55 benchmark, using SK Std Plus ammo , shooting at 50yds from a bench with front rest and rear bag, topped with a Weaver T36. This is the best group I have shot..not everytime but when you everything right ,it will shoot plenty of groups under 1/4 - 1/2 inch

i built a ruger 10/22 bench gun this winter.
im into it for around $1250.

love the gun, it was a lot of fun to build and rebuild.
if i had to do it again i would.

but if i had to do it a third time id call Mil-Arm and they can order ya in a VQ gun, haha, but that takes up to a year to get in.

if you jump fast, Joe Brooks has a boat load of Kid stuff in stock, you could build a Kid gun (barrel, reciever, trigger, bolt) and slap it on a Boyd or Hogue stock and your set.
thats IF they still have stuff in stock, it goes UBER fast.
if they are out then it will probably be 6 months till you see any more Kid stuff around.
its hard stuff to get.
but its worth it!

VQ is good, i run it in one of my guns.
i would rate it just a hair below Kid.

at any rate, welcome to the addiction.
we meet every Tuesday night, coffee and doughnuts are at the back of the room.

oh, and you can save yourself a butt of $ by using Dlask parts, plus they are canadian.
they make hell'a good receivers, barrels and and misc small parts for your build.

I'm definitely going with some of their parts once I get the 10/22... Plus, they're local to me, so may as well support them.

ya i picked up my kidd stuff from jo brooks, everything but receiver (they dont carry them) i'm thinking on getting a dlask instead. Anyone run a kidd barrel in a dlask receiver how was the fit?

Thompson Center Benchmark or R-55 is the rifle that will shoot 1/2 groups at 50 yards all day long. I am not aware of any other factory offerings that are as good for the money. They come up on EE once in a while. they are no longer made by TC, they didn't sell well.

X2. I have shot two examples of the R55 and both could do this. In fact 1 moa at 100 yards wasn't hard with CCI standard ammo and no wind. Let's just say I was more than a bit surprised by this purchase. While I happen to like my Ruger target 10/22 rifles the Thompson does it better out of the box wit no additions. The aftermarket and those rotary 10 round mags are the Ruger's claim to fame. The Thompson just does everything the Ruger is supposed to do without any tinkering or extra purchases. Steel receiver, threaded on match barrel, last shot hold open and exceptional accuracy.

While I like my Ruger target models every little bit you modify and change adds up. The cost of my Ruger 10/22 stainless target was pretty close to that of the R55. But now add on a trigger job, and I had the scope base changed to a one piece Leupold. These two changes made the otherwise stock Ruger shoot very well. But still that was about $140 more to the base price. The Thompson the trigger is a bit heavy but it's clean and crisp. There isn't the instant need to go out and change it. Plus no other additions needed (which is a good thing because there aren't any available). If you can find a R55 get one!!

The three contenders before being scoped:

1) Ruger 10/22 K10/22T , 2) Remington 597 TVP and 3) Thompson Center R55 benchmark

My favourite? It's between my Ruger and the R55. Indoors I shoot the Ruger with Lapua Super club. Outside the R55 hands down. Overall the R55 is the winner. Cost the R55, Accuracy the R55, features the R55. I'm not sure what it is exactly that I like so much about my Ruger but it is still a favourite. Also with the mods made it shoots very accurately with match ammo. While the R55 shoots exceptional with much cheaper ammo.

One piece Leupold scope mount is worth it. Have it for the Ruger and 597. Note The R55 required their base to get it right.

I have modded a couple of 10/22s, in the past, but I could never understand people sinking $1300 to $1800 into a 10/22, when you can buy a Volquartsen, starting at around $1500. The last time I felt like having a semi auto plinker, I called up Sylvestre Sports, and three days later, I was shooting my new Volquartsen.

But you can build a kidd for cheaper then 1500 $ and kidd is better?
