So, Remington versemax tactical or Benelli M2?

It will be used for three gun and grouse hunting. I already have a SBE II and want something lighter and faster for grouse and three gun.

Will I be disappointed with the Remington?other options?

M2...

But, regardless... You will buy the remington because it's cheaper.

I have VM Tactical. Out of the box it is closer to having the features you want for gaming. I had the mods done to bring it to full speed. The two guns are very close but your finished cost will be less by starting with a Tactical. The VM is slightly easier to load and is the softer shooter. A lot of people start with a VM Sporter at 26 inches and go from there. The Sporter will give you one extra round as it is marked for 3.5inch shells.

Biggest problem for me with Benelli is getting parts. My gunsmith has access to all Remington parts.

Well... If y'buy a gun that doesn't break you won't need to buy parts ;-)

I've run thousands through my M2... Nothing has failed yet.

The M2 is the better shotgun......but the VM is cheaper , and will still get the job done ; just depends on how much extra cash you have to spend.....

So now that I have an M2 what size of extension do I get so it will hold 5 rounds of three in 12ga? Currently it holds 3 in the mag. Would I be correct in thinking I need a + 3 extension as they are made for 2 3/4 shells?

If you are going to compete with that gun, you might want to consider configuring it so that it will hold 6 +1 x 2.75 as it's chambered for 3 inch and can legally take 6. Also if there's a chance that you will want to compete in the US, there are ways to configure for greater capacity while down there while remaining legal in Canada. I've set my VM up for 6 + 1 here and 10 +1 when down there by using an inexpensive extension.

I believe my VM Tactical came with a Nordic +5 for a total of 8 + 1. I use a plug that takes in down to 6 + 1 x 2.75. When I'm in the US, the plug comes out and a plus 2 endcap goes on. As most matches have a max of 9 + 1 I'm GTG wherever I happen to be playing. My plug was made of a length of aluminum tubing, a small length of rubber hose, some epoxy and a screw covered by a cap.

I'd be interested to know more about how you plugged it for 6+1. I just got mine brand new from Wolverine and it will do 5+1.

When I got mine, it had a steel cup installed that pugged it to 4. I disassembled the tube to see how that worked and without me doing anything, the cup dropped out anto the floor opening the capacity to 8 + 1 which I knew had to be changed. By this time I had learned that my tactical which is chambered for a 3 inch shell (or so it was marked) could legally hold five x 3 inch shells (max of the chamber as marked) and so 6 x 2.75 could be legally loaded. After thinking about it and talking to another friend with a VM, I designed a suitable plug and installed that with epoxy and a "permanent" screw in the cap. I may have a picture of what I designed. PM me if you are interested further and I can send it along.

If my barrel says 2 and 3/4 AND 3" that pretty much means I can only have 5 of any kind, right?

If so then I don't need to monkey around with my plug.

My VMT had a ring "divot" rolled into the tube on both ends to limit the follower.

There's enough thickness remaining to grind out the ring on the inside to allow the follower to move freely.

I used a long carriage bolt permanently attached to the end cap to restrict how far the follower can move up the tube.
