Handguns:

manufactured before 1898 that can discharge centre-fire cartridges, other than a handgun designed or adapted to discharge 32 Short Colt, 32 Long Colt, 32 Smith and Wesson, 32 Smith and Wesson Long, 32-20 Winchester, 38 Smith and Wesson; 38 Short Colt, 38 Long Colt, 38-40 Winchester, 44-40 Winchester, or 45 Colt cartridges

Thanks for the info, I can now tell the semi-fudd blowhards that .45acp is good to go:)

So modifying an antique to shoot calibres on the restricted list doesn't change the antique status? Cool. Where can I find the referance so that I can shut up the local gun experts:p

NOT on the restricted list. They can't be specifically chambered to shoot any of the above listed calibers.

This list needs to go, its completely illogical, just like the rest of the firearms act.

This thread has set a new standard for deviation from the OP, I like old guns... it would be great to buy some from the States where guns were made back in the day.
The question is: If I knew where to buy antiques from the States would I share that information?????

^Agreed, theres not a whole lot of them around, to find a nice specimen for yourself is nice and what everyone wants obviously.

The kind of deal where the less competition the better...

I think for the most part most of the good sources are well known though.

Why would you not share? Unless you want to have a monopoly on buying beat up antiques in the US and rebuilding them with a quick cold blue finish and charging 4 times what you paid. :D

Lets say at auction there is a gun that you really want (for whatever reason) the last thing you want is others even knowing about it. Same thing with a private sale.
If you don't want a particular gun then by all means share the opportunity with others who might want it.

I think the general attitude is more like not sharing the exact whereabouts of a good fishing hole - now it's not a good fishing hole when 20 boats show up the next day.

I like Global Firearms, Antiquefirearms.com, & Bob Adams. They all ship to Canada.
