Best value under $400 for long range shooting?

I don't think it's bad at all. You can't see the wood grain at a target stand at 100m like you could on a Bender, but it served me very well on my first foray into precision shooting many years ago. I was able to utilize it effectively out to 1km. I would not feel at a disadvantage if I had to take it into combat or competition.

It cannot compete with any high quality scopes, but it gets the job done. Simple non-variable design leaves less opportunity for things to go wrong. Glass is acceptable, and mine tracked dead on. If it's good enough to be issued on a 50, it sturdy enough for me

i have been using fitco and none have let me down they have a 40x with side parallax for like 105 bucks
i have the 32 x and have been using it for years still goin ,i have a total of 5 and none have broken
in the bush maybe not havent tried but bench they have proven well for me

Majority of my rimfires wear fitco scopes. They've held up on my 3.5" mossberg 535 turkey gun as well. Can't ask for much from a $12 scope lol. They are bright and clear enough for rimfires
I got my Bushnell legend ultra hd 3-9x50 shipped to my door for less than $300 from Cabelas in August. I'm quite impressed with it. It's better than my 32-3500 elites

Go with Jerry's idea. Have an RPR 6.5 creed as well, and it took a bit of experimenting, but I am at .3 MOA most of the time, sometimes down under .2 MOA. You just can't get there with a cheap scope. If you don't get the right scope, you will be disappointed and end up shopping for another one. My scope is worth more than the rifle, and the rings are $200 (ATRS rings). Save up and get something better, or a good used scope.

Can not say enough about my experience with the swfa classic scopes. between myself and my uncle we have 4 of these scopes and have made hits out too 1000m with them...

a lot of naysayers will say that 10x is not enough for long range shooting, but i seem to have no issue, not to mention that a 10x is standard issue for the US military for there snipers. if you cant hit with a 10x, you cant hit with a 24x.

my most recent purchase is a 6x42 SWFA for my 308 for hunting. It should be an excellent optic for ranges between 100-500m. and 500m is where i draw the line for shooting game, as that is the distance that i get reliable cold bore shots out to... my balistics say i have energy to 600m, but my skills limit me to 500m.

Good luck and i hope you enjoy the wonderful experence of long range shooting... i would highly recommend the sniper 101 videos from rex!

I also have a Vortex Viper PST 6-24x50 EBR-2. It has fantastic glass. The best of the 3. The turrets are just a bit off. I find I always need about 5-7-10% more elevation than I'm supposed to... which I find really annoying. This scope has already been back to Vortex for warranty for other reasons. At $1300, it's not really an option for those want to shoot PRS style disciplines where you need to dial in corrections between shots at distances from 300-600-1000.... again IMHO.

I just read this. I'm curious if you did a tall target test with your Vortex? That should tell you how far off the turret adjustment % wise which you can input into your ballistics program so you get the right outputs.

the C4 is a step or two above the ff2, i have both. The guys on 24hr Fire were were having fun testing them out when they first came out with some good results.

I liked the glass on the Burris Fullfield II I was fondling at the store, who carries the C4 and what is it's pricing?
