Best way to get a 9.3x62 for me...

If you look, you can find next to unused guns there. I've bought many of them from Anthony. Everyone has been better than the pictures and description.

Yes, but those seem to be mostly 8x57s. Maybe I need to look harder!:)

Will what are called "Husky Sporter"'s be fine for my action choice? I obviously plan on reloading, but I don't plan on hotrodding, so I'm guessing that if it comes chambered in that calibre, I'd be ok with this action? In my mind this is a 100 yard Moose thumper.

The ones listed as "Husky Sporter" are M96 actions, which would be okay if the pressures are kept reasonable. I'd aim for a FN M98 if I was you.

If you build the M98, you'll have an almost worthless rifle in resale terms, where as if you go with the CZ it will hold most of its value. Saving in increments and waiting to buy the CZ is exactly the same deal as building the M98 piece by piece, you'll be hunting moose in the same time frame in the end, and likely at less cost with a far better finished product by owning the CZ. It will be more accurate, due to CZ's excellent hammer forged barrels with integrally forged chambers for perfect bore/chamber concentricity, made of better steel, and be worth more to the next guy should you ever bore of it. No question which way to go on this one if you ask me.

Yes, but from what I see on their site, if it is a M98 it will say that. Most others are M96's. Not sure if the 9.3x62 was ever chambered in a 96 anyway...

Yes, there were a few, I had a Stiga built Sporter (96 receivers) in 9.3x62.....pretty handy rifles but kick pretty hard in stock configuration :D .

to OP: yes an email or phone call to Tradeex would serve you better than any of us would if you are interested in one of their rifles.

Ive built two on FN 98 actions (timney triggers etc) , one with a douglas barrel the other with a Heym and if I were you I would take ardents advice, My other 9.3x62 is a cz 550 medium, its more accurate than either of the other two , has a better trigger , safety and recoil lug system , 2 cross bolts a nice turkish walnut stock.

in the end you get exactly what you pay for

If you re-barrel, your costs will put you well above $1200.
besides the CZ route (your best bet) - I suggest you scour the sales and you will find one eventually that may e closer to what you want. As soon as oyu need to re-barrel, the costs go too high. It is one thing to buy a good action in the caliber you want and then modify the rifle a bit, but it is another thing to build a semi-custom rifle.

'Cause Cory started to question the Heym or Montana bbl and made that one of his options in his decision checklist.

Well, you guys got me thinking hard about the CZ. I've always admired their rifles, and it looks like this would be the "perfect" opportunity to get one. Then there's part of me saying that if I bought one from Tradeex, I could hunt with it right away, and then upgrade as I go along.

One thing I've noticed in my reading is a lot of people with rifles bigger then the .300 Mag's is that they install "cross-bolts" in their stocks. Would this be a smart idea no matter which decision I make? I notice the CZ doesn't come with one, so that's the only reason I ask.

Thanks again for everyone's opinions. It's given me a lot to think about.

Cory; Several 9.3X62s on the Tradeex site right now, looks all are 96s, some with good bores at around $350 - I'm tempted myself. You can always ask for some close up pics. first. --- John303.
