Better pics of my new E.A.L rifle. (Dial up beware!)

I have also heard that the mount holes through the s/n are "correct" for issued rifles with scopes... Unconfirmed third-hand, of course.

Me Dad-in-Law was SAR tech in the 1960's and 1970's, and remembers being issued with something like the EAL, but he swears it had the aperture sight - Contrary to the records stating that the military version with the leaf rear sight was RCAF issue... But, he is getting old(!).

That said, I was overjoyed to find a civi-pattern version (aperture sight) for $325 about 18 months ago - She is a little rough around the edges (and bore), but with Crappy-Tire purchased Federal 150gr SP my first round out of a clean, cold barrel has been consistently within 1cm of my point of aim at 100m, when I use my friend Mr Sandbag as a rest.

I know what my deer rifle is gonna be, when and if I ever graduate from paper killing!

Funny, an EAL on the EE, $450.00 asking price, looked like the civilian model, now sold. Wonder if Cantom now has a new stallion in the barn?

Nope. I PM'd him to give him a heads up, but he had spent the afternoon napping and missed it.

Must never sleep.....may miss a deal. Words to live by Cantom. :p

I tried for it but someone beat me to it...darn it. Oh well, I've beat people to other deals too...

So just for fun I ran the term EAL in the Ottawa Citizen"s CFC database. Turns out there are 393 registered as EAL for the make. There are another 145 (some of these will be duplicates of the first bunch) registered as EAL for the model. The interesting thing is that many guys registered them using the serial number as part of the make or model. Going by the data on there, serial 39 is the lowest serial available, and 6647 is the highest. There are a couple of 3 digit serial numbers there as well, and some lucky fellow has serial 5000, which should be the first of the military production.

Maybe someone could get a freedom of info request for all the serial numbers of the EALs just for research purposes.

Intersting to see how many different versions/explanations of the EAL are on there. Many got it partly right with Josten's, one used Skennertons version of Eatons arms Ltd., and someone invented foreign arms ltd.

Of course, some of them are registered as shotguns, some as lever action, some as cooey etc....and of course, many of them won't be registered at all.

So you're saying the registry info is a bunch of useless bs??

No, it still tells where there is a gun for when they want to come and collect them all.

Hey Cantom, maybe if you do the FOI request, and throw in an extra fiver for them, they'll give you all the names and phone numbers of the guys who registered them. Someone will sell you one. :p

It's a thought...eliminating this boondoggle confiscation system is a much better one though.

Well I don't know??? I phoned mine in this morning, and the first thing she said that the rifle was never varified, as the rifle was registured as a lee enfield 303, so after 10 min. on the phone and going over the rifle, it was decided that it was a E.A.L. civilian model. Yes Cantom I was the one that beat you to the E.A.L.:dancingbanana:I have learn't you have to quick on the key-board! and Woodchopper you are not getting this one!:p It seams that they have to go on whats info is given to them. No I'm not standing up for the CFC as I know there's lots of improvement.

I sold you a civilian one about 6 years ago. Is that the one you still have? It had a pretty minty barrel if I recall. Seems like when they blued these rifles, they blued the bores as well. I have seen three new/nearly new and all had shiney blue bores.
Of course I still have it! Silly question:D

I can't believe they'd drilll holes right through the serial number...that sucks, even if it is a factory installation.

Hey John Sukey- can you post pics of your EAL with the PH scope mount on it so people can see what mount went with these rifles? At least we can collect pics of these rifles.

I keep telling you guys I am kumpewter illiterate. I can photograph it with my 35mm Kamera and mail the pickchurs, but that's about it.:D
