Looking at two models of rifles.

was looking at Mossberg® MVP LC Light-Chassis Bolt-Action Rifle w/ Vortex Viper HS-T Riflescope or a Savage 10FCP McMillan, both are 308win.
Mossberg comes with scope. and can use a lot of different options that a AR uses. Also been hearing the mossberg is ready to shoot 1000 yards out of the box. I have always liked Savage though...

Thoughts?

Between those two savage

What's your budget? What's your total budget with scope?

What's your end goal? Belly benchrest, prs, just some good old long range plinking fun?

List off those, and there are a lot of knowledgeable folks on this forum to lend you a hand in getting started

Looks like i was thinking the same thing as you guys, I never owned a Mossberg before, I figured the savage as well. On some of the reviews i watched on the mossberg. it got pretty decent reviews....

Just to make things even more difficult for the OP, here's a basically savages versions of the mossberg mvp lss.

Who knows when it will be available up here though.

For a bit more cash up front you could buy a savage and put it into a MDT stock and sell the factory stock. That's all mossberg did. Just watch out for the throat length on the savage. They are known to be very short once in a while. To the point they won't close on factory ammo.
If you wanted you could get a Howa/Vangard or a Remington and do the same thing
