Beyond Belief Long Range Hunting DVD

I bought the shooting beyond belief video, also by John Burns, and it was pretty good. It is a 3 DVD set with about 9 or 10 hours worth of video all about long range hunting. It covers everything to do with long range hunting including rifle, handloading, drop charts, optics... It was expensive at about $120 CAD but worth it I believe, good reference for long range work.

There was no hunting footage.

I have it too and it is worth it. A while ago there was a thread about how it is fake and not possible to hunt at long ranges. I am a believer! My longest shot on game yet is 427 yards, bang flop. This winter I am gonna practice on coyotes here in Sask. Hopefully I can take a yote at 800 yards this year. I shoot a lot and I wouldn't try if I wasn't confident in my equipment or ability.

why not try hunting instead of shooting

There are sure a lot of people that would like to be an " acomplished sharpshooterr" . Under 10% are suited for long range shooting and under 1% put the time/effort/money/training in acomplishing that goal.

This is the reason all hunters disscurage others from such long range shots.
It is fun, it is thrilling, but it takes at least the same amount of knowledge as other forms of hunting.

It is hunting just a different type. Some people like to bowhunt, others shotgun and yet others longrange rifle. I too am a firm believer in it but agree one must shoot to their abilities, equipment being used and and conditions being presented. You don't just go out and shoot a rock at 700 yards and say "OK now I can take deer at 700 yards".

When you can go out and consistently make hits at these ranges then you are ready for some serious fun.

I find the long range shooting facinating however, the preview showed a few animals taken out of the center of a herd at ranges where the slightest variable could send a bullet into another animal. Does the video show the misses (or worse)?

400-500 yards is do-able by your average shooter, but 700+ is a whole new ballgame. I'll stick to shooting steel.

I do hunt Canadian Hunter. Do you ? or is the truck your blind? I have taken moose at less then 30 feet and whitetails too. Maybe you shouldn't pass judgement on others till you know the facts!:runaway: These animals were taken with a 12 gauge at less then 30 feet.:

caribou at 930 yds. Mind you,pls dont ask me if I could do it consistantly. However I did make $40 on bets the one time I did do it:D After 5.5 hrs of running over the tundra trying to get ahead of the heard I took the only shot taken on a bull by all the hunters there on the second last day. Everyone else left with nothing or a cow. Was I not hunting?

anything i shoot is always less then 200 yards. why? because i like to use HUNTING skills to get close to game so at least they have a chance to notice you and take off. use hunting skills to get them close and then use shooting skills to put em down.

btw, the reason i dont shoot farther isnt because im not capable.

it takes shooting skills, not hunting skills to bag an animal at 700 yards ;)

That's very presumptuous of you... what is the difference between shooting an animal that does not know you are there at 200 or at 700 yards.
Your derision of accomplished shooters who are capable of making long range shots speaks loudly to your own misunderstanding of the different skill sets necessary to a well rounded hunter.:(
Your argument is not logical and it is these opinions and divisions that lends fuel to the antis! JBRO

I got sick of sneaking up on animals and I find they taste better when they are feeding in a grain field and then "blam". Maybe if you were a more confident "shooter" you would realize there is more to hunting the sitting in a treestand or "belly-crawling" through a swamp. Bigredd nailed it on the head. Close-minded people are the ruination of this sport, hobby, tradition and this great country we call home.:(

maybe i should have explained more...

i wont shoot big game past 125-150 and varmints around 200. a deer at 100 has a heck of alot better chance to wind you or see you than one does at 700. it actually takes hunting skill to get close to game such as using wind, camo, scents, calls etc. explain what HUNTING skills are required to get to within 700 yards of game  exactly my point ;) no camo, scents or calls are required....

yes, this is really fuel for the anti's

so now an animal tastes better if you shoot it farther away:confused: actually a fatal shot at any range will put the animal down quickly before any acids come into play.

maybe if i were a more confident shooter? like i mentioned before, its not that i dont like long range shooting because im not capable its because i find it unethical. in fact, i shoot targets with my shotgun and small cal rifles (no rifle hunting big game in my area so i dont practise with them often) at twice the range that i expect to shoot game. so, IF i ever had to make a long range such on a wounded animal, i would be fully capable.

Just out of curiosity here Canadian Hunter.

Why do you care?? If you don't like that style of hunting then so what. He does so leave him alone. Why do you have to tell the world that you think it's un ethical?? I say to each his own. I also would never shoot anything out that far but as far as im concerned if someone else wants too, then more power too em.

In a thread about a long range shooting video, why do you think everyone here would like to hear all about your dislike of long range hunting?? you think it's unethical Ok great; you can think whatever you want, but lots people do enjoy it and/or are interested in it. So really all your doing is just trying to get a reaction. so you can go stand atop your pedestal and look down on everyone if you like but just make sure your pedestal is a good distance away cause nobody wants too hear you drone on about whatever YOU don't do or agree with. get over it, you made your opinion known so shut up, you have nothing else to add except arguing.

as you can see, my first post was very simple and got the point across that i dont like it.

a couple posts were directed towards me so im obviously going to respond.

they were making points about why they enjoy long range shooting and i was making points about why i dont like long range shooting...simple debate so far;)

You guys might want to read this thread http://www.canadiangunnutz.com/forum/showthread.php?t=61495&page=6 It discussed in detail long range hunting. It's a hot topic and divides most hunters. Either you think it is unethical or you find that is another form of hunting.

I will say this if you are going to hunt animals at extended ranges you
1) better have the equipment to do so
2) are more then capable at shooting at these distances.
