Even if it was legal in BC I wouldn't do it...same with tree stands, might as well park an RV in the field and hunt from a hammock as well.
It doesn't take any skill, no matter how hard some of you think it is to set up baits.

Declan said:I have mixed feelings about baiting animals. That's not really hunting, it's luring and shooting from the safety of your trailer, or cabin, or what have you.
Also, if you're going to take an animal, do it with a reliable tool. I have a few friends who hunt with bows and more often then not, they just wound the animals, especially when they use recurves.
Not to pick on you, just telling you how your post makes me feel. Nice looking bear though. Give him a fair fighting chance and uf you (your friend)take him down, do it fast and painless. Use a good rifle, not a sharpened stick that might or might not kill it.

Xman said:I agree with some of the above. Baiting is not hunting; like someone else said, it is just luring and ambushing dumb animals with the promise of food. It's cruel and it doesn't provide the animal with a fair chance in my opinion. It doesn't take any skill, no matter how hard some of you think it is to set up baits.
Your "friends" are obviously clueless apes and should not be using archery methodsAlso, if you're going to take an animal, do it with a reliable tool. I have a few friends who hunt with bows and more often then not, they just wound the animals, especially when they use recurves.
Demonical said:The debate about baiting bears is old and tired and once again hunters with puritanical opinions have managed to derail a thread. The common denominator once again is that a few hunters with ignorant, intolerant opinions about their fellow hunters from the rest of the country.
So STFU about it already...![]()
Xman said:How can you say that when for the past few days you've been blasting RollingRock for his "unethical" hunting methods?
The thread seems to be gone but I distinctly remember a post you made a couple days ago, questioning the guy's ethics, compassion, hunting skills and wondered if he goes hunting just to hear animals suffer.
I think you're just getting called on your hypocracy and you don't like it.
If you're gonna dish it out to other hunters about their lack of morals and hunting ethics, you should be able to take it also.
It doesn't take any skill, no matter how hard some of you think it is to set up baits.
Since you seem to know just how easy it is to set up baits, how about telling us how many baits you have personally set up and run?How many bears came to these bait? How many large boars?
Even if it was legal in BC I wouldn't do it...same with tree stands, might as well park an RV in the field and hunt from a hammock as well.
I'm asking as I haven't hunted bear yet.
stubblejumper said:And since you didn't respond to my questions,I will repeat them again. If you decline to answer again,we can only assume that you have never baited black bears, and are only speculating with no actual first hand experience. That certainly would not be a surprise.

Xman on the other hand, you and your "holier-then-thou" attitude can go to hell.
...but Xman makes a good point. It is you Demonical who got 'holier than thou" on the asian dude with the SKS.

And no, I have never set bait for a bear,
I have hunted bear, the hard way.
I did a Eastern European bear and wild boar hunting tour. I got a decent size pig in Poland and a really nice Brown Bear in Romainia. It was real hunting, not hiding in an RV while the bear gourged itself to sleep.
