That's for sure, the 416's are in a different league altogether.
That's true, but not the way you think. Load a big case .416 with the heaviest bullet that allows it to make 3000 fps, then do likewise with a .375 Ultra or a .378 Weatherby. At 500 yards the .375 will have less drop, and puts more energy on target than its pudgy brother. I do like the .416 bore rifles though; when coupled with big cases like the Ultra, Rigby, and Weatherby, the .416s are the largest bore size that, IMHO, can be considered true general purpose cartridges.

Check out these numbers. The 416 Wby has less impact drop and 600+ ft-lbs more energy at 500 yards than the 375 RUM. Plus about 25% more cross-sectional bullet area than the 375 = more shock.
The 416 rules over the anemic 375!

The .416 Weatherby is clearly a star, as is the Rigby, but I thought you were claiming the .416 Remington was superior to the .375 Ultra. Too bad Remington hadn't thought of using the .404 case when they decided to jump on the .416 bandwagon, a .416 Ultra would have been some cartridge.

Just for giggles I ran the 350 gr Cutting Edge Lazer in JBM to see what the prediction was using the same muzzle velocity I got for the 350 gr Woodleigh from my 22" Ultra. Its impressive, at 500 yards the velocity is still 2031 fps, and the energy is 3206. Not bad for a hunting bullet starting at 2500, but it needs a 1:10 twist.

Cutting Edge makes a .416 Match/Tactical/Hunting bullet that weighs 472 grs. If you could handle the cost and recoil of loading in a Weatherby cartridge, it would be a performer.

CEB's are the bullets to use on long range targets. Amazing ballistic coefficient values.

Yes it does! And, it's much easier to find brass.
Every 416 CT case I ever used was formed from picked-up 300 and 338 Win Mag brass at the range. Bevan King installed one of his barrels on a Turkish Mauser, 400 gr Barnes Originals loafed out of the barrel at 2300 fps, and the brass lasted forever.
