The local artillery park (RA Park in Halifax) sends one gun per year down to the weapons shop in Dockyard for refurbishment/preservation. Last year they did their 6 pdr AT gun, this year, the 25 pdr is down for work. That way they cycle them through about every 10 years.

When I was a kid, we used to go to Coronation Park in Oakville ON. We'd play on the big artillery pieces there. Well, one day, someone figured out how to release the gun and it started spinning around...a bunch of kids were on the gun like it was a merry go round and it was spinning pretty fast with more kids running around and turning it...probably dangerous but it was sure fun...till some dour guy came out and welded it up...![]()
I remember those! There was a 40mm BOFORS and (I think) an '88. I don't remeber them being anything but welded up (unfortunately). Next time I am home visiting I will go and see if they are still there.
Memories!
