Took some photo's of the old cannon sitting out front of the hometown Legion that I thought would be something abit different to post.
I remember playing on this ol' boy when I was just a kid ...;)

The local artillery park (RA Park in Halifax) sends one gun per year down to the weapons shop in Dockyard for refurbishment/preservation. Last year they did their 6 pdr AT gun, this year, the 25 pdr is down for work. That way they cycle them through about every 10 years.

When I was a kid, we used to go to Coronation Park in Oakville ON. We'd play on the big artillery pieces there. Well, one day, someone figured out how to release the gun and it started spinning around...a bunch of kids were on the gun like it was a merry go round and it was spinning pretty fast with more kids running around and turning it...probably dangerous but it was sure fun...till some dour guy came out and welded it up...

I remember those! There was a 40mm BOFORS and (I think) an '88. I don't remeber them being anything but welded up (unfortunately). Next time I am home visiting I will go and see if they are still there.

Memories!

This one pointed up at about a 40 degree angle...yeah, it was just that one day of freedom...soon to be squashed...

That gun is lucky to have survived the WWII scrap metal drives. There was one in my hometown from WWI. My dad tells how some workmen arrived to disassemble it, and one guy started to undo the big nut on the front end ... when 25 years of spring pressure unloaded. The nut he was unscrewing fired across the street and lodged in the wall of the church.

If you want to be a nice guy, volunteer to the town to sand blast and repaint it for them. Maybe they won't write down your name and after the staff change over a few times, it will be yours.

The armoury in Moosejaw has quite a few artillery pieces and some old vehicles.

When I finally buy my quarter section I want to find an old but restorable artillery piece and have the end of the drive dialled in and if it is the WW2 German 88 I really want the local gas station and golf course as well.
You can never be to ready for zombies.

I used to play on some old artillery pieces in Dundrin park in Hamilton when I was a kid. One day I fell off one of them & tore open my elbow, still have the scar. They disappeared from the park & I thought they where scrapped. When I went to the war museum in ottawa, they it stood, the elbow mangler. At least it wasn't scrapped.

The gun in Knowlton is a German FeldKanone model 1896 N.a while the one pictured above is a Feldkanone M1916... And the breech block seems to be all present on the pics...

Nice old piece. It's a wonder the soccer moms and liebrals don't demand that this evil thing be removed. After all, aren't these old guns in demand with the gang-bangers......:p:p
