Bill to ban ecolars

funny, I've been raising german shepards some 30 years and NEVER used any kind of a choker, shock collar, or other restraint- a simple leash, collar and PATIENTCE seems to be all I've ever needed- I consider the rest to be INHUMANE

Just curious if you've ever trained retrievers or any gun dogs at all? Have you ever actually had the need to make corrections at say, 100, 150, 200+ yards while casting or handling? Do you do that on leash? Have you had your dogs break during a situation that could potentially turn dangerous and maybe they aren't on collar or leash? Dogs do strange things in hunting and training scenarios sometimes and can out of reach fast. I'm not saying e-collars are the "do all, end all" training solution and users do need to be properly educated on them. That being said, if you can't train without one, you can't train efficiently with one and its unfortunate some people use them with the wrong intentions. E-collars are definitely a great training tool when used properly and help get results, but maybe they just aren't for you, or don't fit to help you achieve your training goals, but please don't say they are inhumane just because you don't, won't, or are confused by the use of them, that's honestly a foolish and uneducated assumption that seems to be made all too often in regards to e-collars.

no, I work off leash with nothing but a whistle- and out to about 300 yards- and they break once, get disciplined and they don't break again- and that's hard to do with rabbits in the scenario- and if the situation is what I deem dangerous, I can "freeze" my dog - still no need for the collar or choke chain- I do schutzhund

We bought one for our dogs because she would bark at the wind blowing, and she has a LOUD bark.

Anyway, after some training with the shock collar, she doesn't continuously bark any more. Only lets out one or two and then she's done.

It's only a tool and when used properly it can help train your dog.

And yes, I tried it before I put it on my dog. It hurts..

I sure wish my dogs (Labs) were perfect, then I wouldn't have to use pinch collars, heeling sticks, check cords and/or e-collars but since I am honest about my dogs faults I will continue to use such inhumane implements. I will add that I have met a number of people who claim their gun dogs don't wear e-collars or have never been force fetched, etc., and without exception every single one of their dogs were awful in the field despite their owners/handlers adamant denial of their dogs obvious faults.

I use an E collar whilst training and hunting, I think that if used correctly its a great tool, alot better than screaming and shouting at your dog then disciplining him when he returns. After the first few days of training with my springer I have the setting on 1.5 and have only once had to use it higher when he took after some deer. I would like to get just a beeper for the collar as 95% of the time that is all i need to get his attention when he is working in thick bush, out of sight.
He does quite often work with me without the collar just fine but, he has also wanted to make friends with a young bear last spring and without the beeper on the collar, he probably wouldn't be here now.

I train in the use of the Remote Training Collar. I train people how to humanely use them, with effect, and it's likely the most humane and effective training collar that is available on the market today. A good collar will be used on levels truly imperceptible to humans, I can honestly demo the collar to anyone interested by putting it on my own neck and pressing the button at the level I train dogs with, it is imperceptible and causes no pain. To the dog it only feels unnatural and is like me tapping it on the shoulder at 700 yards and telling it to listen to the command. There is nothing inhumane or painful about it with proper use and training.

You can abuse a dog with a food dish (obesity, not beating it, but I'm sure even that's been done), a flat buckle collar, a choke chain, a newspaper, a slipper, and a myriad of other non banned items.

Please provide a link to an article OP, I'll be taking this on.

*Edit* Never mind I found it....

You are of course aware that the same people lobbying against these collars also want to shut down dog sports like Schutzhund, IPO, and the Ringsports as they also consider that INHUMANE.

Honestly the best and most trustworthy dogs I've known were/are Schutzhund/IPO or ringsport, and I consider it a valid sport and physical outlet for a breed designed to work. However there are those, even in the dog community, that feel otherwise.

Stand together or fall divided. You may not use the collar but that doesn't make the collar itself a illegitimate form of training.
