Bipod for CZ 858?

I put one of those Fab Defense railed handguards on mine, and the attached a standard rail-mount bipod to the gun. It's OK, the bipod sits a little farther back than I would like.

Other than going to a barrel-mounted bipod, I'm not sure what else a guy can do.

Drill a hole in the fore-end and screw in a sling swivel stud for a Harris-type bipod.

I found this bipod - the second from the bottom. Would this work? The clamp might look a bit clunky though. I guess I could try the drilling idea but I would be afraid of drilling off centre or drilling too deep and into the barrel.

Edit: I should have read the previous post more clearly when you said drill into the fore-end (not the barrel).

Don't see why it wouldn't work. I don't like the clamp idea much, personally.

Handy hint: take the lower hand guard off the rifle before you drill it.

Sure, but you don't have to buy a plastic handguard. A $2 gun show stud and a drill is all you need.

But, it looks cool. And it's green. :D

I know what you mean though, I did that stud thing to a 597 TVP. Took 5 minutes, most of that looking for my drill bits.

I bought a new forestock for my 858 with a picatinny rail. I attached a Grip Pod pistol grip/bipod and it looks good and works great. Far less weight and less bulky than a regular bipod and I find the pistol grip makes the gun easier to handle, especially with extra weight up from from my Eotech and flashlight.

I bought mine on Ebay for $50. Just be careful of Chinese knockoffs.

Personally I'm not a fan of mounting a bipod on the barrel especially with a barrel as thin as the VZ58. Your POI will change more and more the further from the receiver you go, I know the czech bipod mounts at the muzzle and I would argue it is a flawed design due to POI shif. I would suggest mounting the bipod on a railed handguard as close to the receiver as possible that way you have a little impact on POI as possible and the weight is closer to the balance point for when not in use.

That's a shame - that would have been perfect.

actually , i sold it bcos of what RT said .

Strange?
Cuz I have this on my CZ and at poco I can hit the small gong all day long. Actually Colin with his AR would hit the gong and then I would hit the gong and we would go back and forth all day long, wether it's on or it's not. Oh ya, mine has the bushnell holosight on a fab handguard system & he uses an EoTech on his swiss army knife that he calls a rifle.
:D
On a side note if you are looking for a percision rig the x39 isn't the best round out there for this.

The military front mount bipod raises POI 6 to 10 inches - depending on ferrule pressure from forend --

Alright...How do you get this bipod to work?????>>>

I slide it on..very tight. Used light taps from a rubber mallet to help.

The legs won't extend.? I see that it has to be lined up with the hole underneath for the pin. I did that.

They still won;t extend....They even look a little bent now because I have been screwing around with it.

Am I doing something wrong
?

Ahhhh.. going to need a little more info.

What kind of bipod are you talking about? And maybe post a pic of what's not doing what (bend)..

firstly, the bipod should slide in freely, do not use a mallet. if it doesnt slide in freely then find out what the problem , any blurr or paint, if so the file it off.

secondly, fold the legs forward and the pin on top of the bipod should move down into the bipod , this allows you to slide it onto the bayo lug.

thirdly, move the legs down or backward , the pin will move up into the bayo lug thus locking it in .

So this bipod is going to make you shoot higher or lower than others?
