What kind of an adapter is required to put a folding bipod on a Ruger #1 rifle? It has the sling swivel on the barrel and I don't want to put another swivel on the forend as it is the 'Aleander Henry Type Fore End'. Thanks.

No rifle should be saddled with a bipod and the 1A is especially unsuited. Bipods are awkward, ugly, noisy, clumsy. Be thankful you won't be able to stick one on this rifle. These opinions are mine, of course. Regards, Bill.

I must say, I agree. I have a Ruger No.1 medium sporter in 300 Win Mag with the barrel band front sling swivel. The thought of putting a bipod on it makes me shudder. Personally, if I want a solid rest, I use my Bogpod tri-pod.

That was going to be my next option. Either that or folding shooting sticks. It is just that as the years slip by, I can't hold it steady enough for an offhand shot anymore. It is a 7X57 Mauser and is quickly becoming my all around hunting rifle.

Walking stick with a rest

I'm carving a walking stick right now and planning to attach an antelope horn to it and use the prong for a rest.

I put a 24" bipod on my No1 303 British, along with bedliner the wood stock. Had the metal powder coated 'cast iron' for that stainless look. Barrel fluted and a panzer brake installed. 6.5-20x56mm Leupold on top.

It's called a 32 oz ball-pein hammer. Get one and repeatedly smash yourself in the temple until you forget that you ever wanted to put a bipod on the barrel-band on a #1. A man that would put a bipod on a barrel band swivel is a man who would sleep in his underwear.

LOL...I knew the bedlinered wood stock would never die.

I actually know where it ended up if you want a sweet deal on it.

I shot this mule doe 12 days ago with a Ruger #1 7mmRemMag 180 gr VLD 3025 fps off a Harris swivel bi- pod at 380 yards.

The elevation correction was 4.5 moa from a 200 yard zero.

I would like to see someone make that shot WITHOUT a bi pod.

Wow you guys. You sure told him!

FWIW Mike, putting a bipod on the barrel band is NOT an option, for a number of reasons, not the least of which is the resulting accuracy would probably be so bad as to make you reconsider off-hand shots!

The already posted responses (however grumpy) regarding shooting sticks, etc. are probably the best way for you to go. And from what you wrote, I do not think you were really looking for a "long distance" shooting aid, just something to help steady your shot; in that case the various shooting sticks are a great choice.

Now, if you are actually looking to make the most accurate shot possible, then there really is no substitute for a rock solid bipod in a hunting situation. In that case, your only practical attachment option is to add a swivel stud to your #1's forearm.

Even though Leeper, Cat and BUM will probably never talk to me again for admitting this, I have done just that (added a stud) to my #1-H in 375 H&H. With the bipod attached that 375 is a 400 yard rifle (I can regularly hit clays at that distance with 260 grain NBTs). Shooting of sticks, I would be less comfortable, say to 2-250, but that is only because I do very little shooting off sticks.

I apologize to all for disgracing my #1 with a bipod. I guess I shouldn't mention my #1-V 22-250 that I use for yotes, since it wears a 1A2-25 all the time. Nor should I probably mention the 535 yard yote from a couple years back...

However! I do agree that a 303 #1 should not, EVER, wear a bipod. Some things are just not done.
