Bipod users

I’m looking at upgrading (?) my current Harris Sling Stud attached bipod to something a little more user friendly ie; quick attach. I find fiddling with the Harris in colder temps can be a PIA honestly.

I’ve been digging around the B&G/PRS subforums for a while now but I’m not overly sure which route is best ie; ARCA, M-Lok, or Picatinny. That and some of the complete setups (rail, adapter and bipod) are not what I’m looking to spend or gain weight wise.

So my questions are

1 - Pic Rail Size 2.5-3.5” ?
2 - Is inletting required for above?
3 - Bipod recommendations

I have several types of bipod, but my go to is always the MDT GRND-POD. Choose your attachment preference and you're good to go. It's light, tough & easy to use.

I just put a Salmon River Solutions combo rail on one of mine (pic and arca), I'm really liking it so far. They come in a variety of lengths.

Also just picked up some RRS BTC Pro Clamps and put one on an Atlas and one on a Harris (with the RRS adapter). The BTC clamps fit both pic and arca rails, so I can swap between rifles easily.

Happy with all of it so far.

The MDT GRND Pods are nice too, I sold mine arca version just because I wanted to switch to the setup I just mentioned.
 
If you want to keep it simple get a MDT Oryx bipod for sling studs. I find it far easier to use than my Harris bipod and use it for several of my rifles with traditional stocks. These are my hunting rifles and would use these with a lightweight tripod with a yoke mount (BOG Adrenaline). I didn't want an ARCA rail on these rifles.

I do have some traditional stocks that I have drilled and installed ARCA rails but I went this route because I have an ARCA compatible tripod and I use them where I am not concerned about using a heavier tripod.


For rifles that are in a chassis that are M-LOK compatible I have installed ARCA rails and use a MDT GRND-POD.

Bipods are a very convenient hunting tool, I refuse to understand you have issues......fiddling in colder temperatures, quicker release?
 
Type of attachment mostly depends on the foreend of the rifle, whether a sling stud is all it offers or it has a rail slot or M Lok that can take a directly attached bipod or a section of your choice of Arca or Pic rail.

Agreed that the Harris stud-grabber is fiddly, the Magpul is awkward too, but the MDT version is the best solution for a sling stud that I've seen.

Arca is probably the nicest to work with, but the rail can be a bit wide and cold to grab if it comes that far back. Bipods slide right on and lock, and the rail itself can rest on a support if you're playing PRS or similar.

There are quick-disconnect bipods for Pic rail, Cadex makes a nice-but-pricy one.

It seems as I age my dexterity is not what it was in colder temps and i tend to struggle with the Harris setup more often then not. A quicker attach/detach is what I’m after.

Mostly used when I’m on a watch as I don’t have the bipod setup walking in or out. That and I absolutely despise laying any of my setups on the ground, against trees or rocks to be marked or worse.
