With a lot of little people living in my house, Id rather aim a touch high rather than low. I also dont expect many home invaders in Canada wearing armour in anticipation of a gun fight.
Probably not, agreed. Just saying, if things get really intense like they did in the former Yugoslavia, we might have to shift perspectives in this regard. The common criminal element such as we see in the Jane & Finch area aren't wearing anything unfashionable like plate carriers. But those types aren't usually coming after us in our homes either. The biggest threat from common drug/rapper gangster types is being a bystander and catching a stray bullet... which is to say, most of what they shoot, because frankly those guys are about as far from precision shooters as possible, basically storm troopers. The most recent published shooting seems far too typical - over 60 shots fired from 7 pistols and only 2 guys wounded but apparently going to survive. Not something I'd want happening on my street, but generally speaking not something to worry about.
I was thinking of the tactical shotgun with a couple of wax slugs in #7.5, then a couple of 1oz slugs, in the framing of a major uprising or societal breakdown of some sort, not common criminality which is rather rare and getting more rare year by year. Home invasions tend to happen most often to those already involved in the criminal life. People doing honest work still get victimized now and then, and we need to think about that possibility, but it's hardly worth devoting too much thought to that beyond basic security and awareness. Sorry if I was unclear about the perspective from which I've been contributing arguments, but as I probably indicated earlier, the shotgun is my last line of defence, extremely unlikely to come into play in normal circumstances. In case of ultraviolence, out comes the 12ga, and that's when I'll want to have previously thought out what sort of hell is best for the first salvo or two.
