Does anyone know where I can source 12gauge bismith shells or reloading shot in the vancouver area? I'd like to use my SxS for duck and goose hunting but don't want to damage it with steel. It's a pretty cheap gun from the 70's so I'm not sure it wold survive.

Thanks guys.

Order low pressure bismuth from RST through Prophet River in Alberta. Excellent pricing vis a vis American pricing and you aren't far for shipping.

Kent /gamebore is also producing Bismuth now, it's supposedly re-engineered to be more malleable than previous types ,it's much cheaper than their Tungsten matrix offerings so depending on the vintage or make of your gun they're a great option ,My brother bought a flat for his Zoli sxs and they're great shells ...if you've an older gun with shorter chambers and all that goes with it,than best heed James advice

I have been using kent bismuth. $22.49/10. #6 1-1/16 oz. It works well in my sxs guns. I bought a bunch of original Winchester #4 bismuth and it's horrible for patterns. I've been using it only for close shots in a cylinder bore. Any choke destroys the pattern. The kent stuff is great even in xf chokes. Shoots like lead

Interesting that you had trouble with the old Winchester Bismuth.I used it and have nothing but praise for it,when using it duck hunting. My loads were the heavier ones.Perhaps they pattern better.

I believe the loads I have are 1-1/4 oz #4. I know they're #4. I've tried them in 4 sxs guns with fixed chokes and an ou and pump with cyl-imp cyl-mod-imp mod- and full. The more open the choke the better the pattern. A member on here can verify the results of a fixed full choke. At30 yards the pattern was at least 20' feet wide with some pellets hitting the water only 10 yards in front of us while standing in a blind a foot or 2 above water. I'm 5'10".
The kent was great patterns through out all chokes. Much like lead

Interesting .Never tried to pattern my loads, but I know they worked well on ducks.I found the Winchester Bismuth shells broomed up ,much like lead, making a good sized hole ,like with lead.

With pellets hitting the water only 10 yards in front of you, it would seem to me, there was something wrong with those shells, besides Bismuth.:)

I still have some Winchester Bismuth, never had an issue. This year I bought the Kent bismuth in 12 & 20 and I'm very pleased with the results.

Couldn't agree with you more!!

Glad I'm not the only one having troubles. I paid I think $17 a box. Sticker price was $27.99-32.99 usd way back when. They do kick in my sxs guns. I'll stick with kent for now

I am getting back to duck hunting next year for the first time in 10 years. I use to use Bismuth and Tungsten exclusively over steel but I don't see it on the shelf anymore. I hope I can find some before October 2017.

You may not be able to find it locally ,but you can always order some on line.Like you, I use Bismuth or Tungsten Matrix over steel.I find you only have to shoot half as many shells as steel, to get the same amount of ducks.

I've found that steel has gotten better. I use bb for most everything when hunting with guns that can handle it and do quite well even on 45/50 yard shots. I enjoy shooting ruddies and blue bills. Steel knocks them down and has no issues with bigger divers or geese. Number 4 steel works decent to about 30 yards. After that it doesn't have the energy whereas the bb shot still breaks bones. I only use bismuth in my sxs guns

Steel works fine in 12 gauge, but I need to find some non toxic shot in 28 gauge for a special sharptail grouse hunt here in Alberta. I may have to get Prophet River to bring in a couple of boxes for me, as I don't see any listed in Canada.

Kent Bismuth 7/8 oz. of 6's.

Ok. Thanks. Rst makes a 28 ga bismuth load. Might want to sit down before you read the price though

I love the taste of pheasants but for that kind of money I can buy half a fully cooked chicken per shell

I am actually setting up to reload 28 gauge shotshells, but unless I can find a supplier of Bismuth other than Bilozir, I would rather pay $5 per shot for factory loads. It's not like I would be using more than ten rounds for the hunt.
