Two delivery attempts made mid day only, and Canpar is telling me that its going to be returned to sender in 5 business days if I don't pickup from their depot. Leaving for a 6 day portage in Algonquin on Saturday, and even if I wasnt, the Canpar depot is a 1.25 hour drive from my house. All for a headlamp and some batteries? Not happening. Canada Ammo tells me on the phone that if I want the package, I will have to pay more for shipping, or return the items for refund minus the shipping cost. So, I get no product, and Im on the hook for the shipping costs. Easy decision there. I will never buy from this vendor again, and will be giving a warning to friends to avoid this vendor. This is after multiple smooth transactions with them.

Turning to CGN to vent frustration, as I realize this is their policy and they are sticking to it, and there isnt anything else I can do.

I hadnt expected any issues, and I assumed Canada Post was the standard method of shipping. If I actually selected Canpar somewhere, it was a mistake that I dont remember making.

Im not sure it's entirely their fault, I was just expecting better assistance in rectifying the issue. That certainly did not happen, and now Im out the 25$ for shipping, without any product to enjoy.

They choose to use a crappy shipping service, that's how

You chose to not inquire about their method of shipping. If you want to avoid using Canpar, actually put some effort into it. If you decide to not drive and pick up the packages available to you from Canpar again that's your choice and not the fault of either the shipper or retailer. If you're frustrated with yourself don't take it out on the retailer. Maybe eating the cost of shipping will help you realize your responsibility here.

Nothing bizarre at all, that's normal for Canpar, what's worse is when you drive the many kilometers to the depot at the described time and nobody is there. With all the trouble I wonder why these venders list them as a shipping option.

Oh I fully learned my lesson. Its "don't buy from this vendor again". I take responsibility for myself not doing my due diligence in the transaction, and accept that it cost me 25$. Im happy it wasn't more. That said, I know plenty of vendors that would go way beyond what this one has in the customer service department, and will continue giving them my business instead.

Whenever I am buying something online, one of the first things I do it find their shipping and refund policies. CanAm's shipping policy.

I'd chalk this up as a live and learn experience. As for boycotting them in the future, meh. Your choice.

Yea, as Alpheus said, its definitely a live and learn scenario.

I did call Canpar and explain the situation, but was basically told "tough ####".

If Im dealing with a company who wont eat the 25$ cost for a customers honest mistake (not familiarizing myself with their crappy courier and return policy), I would prefer to end all business with them and spend my money at a different vendor.

Because..there aren't a lot of choices in Canada....Canada post, UPS or Canpar....the 3 "inexpensive" companies, if not...Fedex or Purolator maybe? Then the price would be higher. I think only Amazon could afford to use whoever they want with adequate price with their volume. My local Canpar is good and the depot is just 5 mins drive from where I live, but I think I am just lucky ....sorry OP, but sh***t happens. Hopefully things could be sorted out. Canada Ammo sent a wrong item to me one time, with only one email, they resent the correct item without even ask me to return the wrong one back to them, and it was only 4 days till I receive the right product after my request email. Keep in mind, they were sending it across Canada to me. All my experience with Canada Ammo was great. Just saying ~~~

Why do you feel entitled to have the vendor cover your mistake? If they themselves had screwed up I'd be right with you but stamping your feet about not being spoon fed by Canada Ammo after acknowledging that you missed your due diligence doesn't really give your complaint any validity.

If I'm not mistaken, Canpar will put a sticky note on your door saying they tried to deliver, on this note it gives you the option to sign it for proof of signature and give instructions on where to leave the package. If you didn't get that form or neglected to fill it out that's either Canpar's or your fault...

While obviously not an option for everyone shipping to a business is a great solution. I get everything shipped to my place, except firearms. Major gripe.....So far I've gone to the local post office and Shoppers to pick up firearms as nobody seems to home when CP delivers. My last house had a handgun left on the front step for a few hours!! But got to obey the law because it's so much safer to have the gun sitting around a drug store waiting for me to pick up, next day after 12pm....

I am not impressed with CANPAR. They left me another notice today and yes, I was home. No knock or doorbell. Typical BS from this company.
If the vendor is going to get in the business of selling online (their choice), they need to step up and deal with these issues as they are all too common. Some do, some don't. Those that don't tend to lose customers like the OP.

Blackpowder, I dont feel entitled to have the vendor cover this mistake. I know of vendors who WOULD cover this type issue for the sake of wanting to excel in the customer service, satisfaction, and retainment departments, and that's why they will continue to receive my money.

I realize that not familiarizing myself with their default vendor or return policy was my own mistake, and I accept that it cost me 25$. I have learned my lessons here.

Go to Canpar tracking page, there's a link at the bottom for a notice to have them leave it at your door (or specific instruction). Print it out and leave it by your door and Canpar would follow the instruction (like put it inside my garage).

Won't help you this time but good to know for future. I found Canpar's service to be pretty good, although they have less location than Canada Post.

As someone suggested earlier, call up the Canpar depot and explain them your situation.

I signed the first delivery notification, provided instructions on where to leave the package, then did the same thing with the next delivery notification the following day after the delivery person left the notification directly on top of the previous day's signed version. Then when speaking to Canada Ammo about this, I was told "we instruct Canpar to not leave items behind regardless of signed delivery notifications because we sell dangerous goods". A sound policy, and again, I should have learned this on my own before placing my order for a flashlight and batteries.

I have spoken with both Canpar and Canada Ammo on the phone before coming here to vent frustration.

Who are you replying too? Me or the OP?......You quoted my post but appear to be speaking to the OP's situation.
