Black Badge Ontario?

2 days is about right. It's not just about knowing how to take a gun out of the holster. IPSC takes their rules extremely seriously, and I am glad they do. The emphasis on learning the rules and safety is worth the extra day.

A BB course is a serious investment of time and effort for both the instructor, and the participants. I would hope that the IPSC Ontario group has identified getting as many shooters involved in IPSC as possible as a top priority. The more of us there are, the harder it is to destroy the sport by government decree.

TJspeller, getting more people into the sport is one thing, having the range space available to train them is another and lastly, having space available in matches for all the members to be able to compete.
The ones who do the legwork and find or organize courses at their home clubs, or bring new clubs into the organization are some of the best assets we have. As opposed to the ones who sign up on a waiting list and sit their for two years waiting for a course to come to them.

You could do the BB in a day but you'd be unsafe, uneducated and wholly unable to IPSC with any kind of confidence. This kind of education does not come from the lowest bidder.

Some countries do not have any BB. Their shooters are safe, educated and fully able to IPSC with confidence. Just sayin'.

Now that I got mine, shorten the shooting portion to 1 day, spend the other day on how to operate a patch gun and reset steel, and make the standard for El Prez like 18 seconds. No sense teaching these people too much. I might have to practise.

Contact Alex from Silverdale. He runs privately-held Black Badge course so that you don't have to wait, or as a group (where you will wait).

Unfortunately Alex's instructor status was removed by IPSC Ontario BB coordinator (from what I know because of a technical dispute on following BB program policy, like paperwork after the courses delayed few days), so he can't run BB courses anymore. But if you got your black badge, I would recommend Alex for an advanced IPSC skill training and his matches at Silvedale are the best ones in the province.

You know less than nothing.

Obviously the opinion from someone who has never shot internationally....

But in my view, I think the course should be 7 days with a 2 year probation... Why? Well for one, I've already done the course and you can never be safe enough with new people coming in

Stormbringer, course has been posted to calendar. Thank you for doing this.
Pauls, the policy is nothing new and clearly laid out in the getting started section on the IPSC Ontario website.
Euxx, want a mint?

Keep it, mr. Ontario Black Badge coordinator. You've been needing it more lately. It sounds like just confirmed it was a technical dispute on the BB policy and that there are no more BB courses at Silverdale. Exactly same thing that I said. Now you can exhale and have your mint.

You know... I like and seem to get along with most people. Most people know I tell it like it is... and this is how it is... You guys are doing more harm for IPSC by squabbling on here at each other. I understand that neither one of you are in a position of power to ban each other from here, nor are you guys breaking any rules, but I would expect that the feuding who happen away from the public eye. Are we trying to promote the game here or drive people away when they read the bickering that goes on?

If Silverdale wants a black badge course, they just need to have their club rep contact the training coordinator.
