Black Creek Labs AR180 based rifle SVR2 Siberian approved for Non restricted FRT

I am intrigued, but only in the same sense that I view an impending train-wreck. You can see it coming sure as Sh#t, but you can't do anything about it!

I do have a Sect 74 Challenge winding it's way through the AB courts, so I reckon I get a say about BCL and their new product. I am definitely not a fan of BCL and their earlier incarnation. I have owned their products and been burned by their use of cheap smaterials and a lack of Factory QC. BCL practically invented beta-testing on unsuspecting customers!

Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice.....

The BCL SVR2 "Siberian" may prove to be a fine fighting firearm straight out of the box (once you add the non-included sights). If that is the case, I will eat crow and get in line with my money. What I WON'T be doing however, is lining up to give BCL my money for the product sight unseen. No freaking way will I beta-test the SVR on my own dime. No, this is definitely one where I will be hanging back until souls braver (or sillier) than I take the plunge and report back positively on the gun.

I wish the early-adopters well, and sincerely hope that BCL has learned from the brand's many past mistakes. Nothing would please me more than to see a Canadian defence product tear up the industry while simultaneously offering Canadian shooters a reliable and accurate sporting firearm suitable for recreational use. Let's all hope that the SVR2 "Siberian" is that gun!

Given the skin you have in the game, with or without a challenge Mark, I don't think you need to justify anything to anyone with regard to your opinion.

Seems like they are taking all the gripes people are having with the other 180’s on the market and giving folks what they actually want. Lightweight, standard magwell, and beavertail grip. Let’s hope they don’t install the heaviest barrel they can find for their NR version and they have handguard compatibility. Would definitely prefer stock options over the one pictured on the website.

Yes, you're not wrong, buuuutttt.....

Real easy for armchair commandos to whine and gripe when they didn't put in thousands of $$$ in research, materials and labor into a product only to have it banned by a #### government. How many firearms have you manufactured and had banned, exactly?

The thing is… I’m not a firearm manufacturer nor do I pretend to be one on Full Moon. But I have what I consider, good to very good experience with AR "style kinda look a like" platform under abusive conditions… and I also have experience with 2 NEA product kabooming for reasons I’ve never seen. Cracked bolt carrier on a 500 rounds rifle ?!? How do you manage that one ?

And lets spare the whole BCL/NEA 102 platform, how many shot properly without some advanced basement gunsmithing ? Its like they were changing specs every rifle they produced at some point. How do you go from Version 1 to Version 7 in less than 2 years ?! That’s a lot of improvements in a short amount of time, maybe the product wasn’t ready, maybe someone wanted to cash in before quality models came out like the Stag10, who basically made the NEA102 vanish and drop significantly on the used market. It also tells a lot about the real value of said "quality made in canada" product.

Is it their "military contract" ?

BCL may have improved since then, but there are plenty other companies to buy from whom I’ve never heard stories such as those we’ve all read, seen and lived with NEA/BCL products.

But !

For those who have interest in the rifle, I hope I am absolutely 100% wrong about it. Should this rifle be a complete success, I’ll be the first to admit I was wrong and maybe save some pesos to own one.

I had a fairly recent BCL product with a barrel index pin at 12 o'clock and the gas port at 6 o'clock. Good times.

Here's a BCL barrel I had, the gas port was at both the 12 o'clock and 6 o'clock position.

Why do bcl put these semis under "military products"? They really shouldn't do that sort of crap. ATRS lost some credibility when they listed some of their NR stuff as derivatives of AR15 or something, which is a pinko dog whistle, on their webpage.

For the same reason they state on that very page it is available for select fire.
It is not a commercial market product - it is aimed at MIL LEO

Also ATRS have a lawsuit going on right now about that very thing. They made ar15's. They made a semi auto rifle platform that the RCMP determined wasn't an ar15/10. They never marketed it as such.

The Rcmp changed their mind when new OIC dropped and decided they were prohib.

The frt stated it was not a deriving firearm from the AR15/10 family rifle. On their website they never stated it was a derivative. You're mistaken or wrong.

They are a high end semi auto rifle platform that - like many other firearms of all types, share parts with other firearms. Do not conflate all the issues

If you would go to a restaurant that was under new management after you had a bad experience there then you should do the same with BCL IMO.
