Figured I would pick one up and now wish I had not. First drum would not even go into 4 different different 10/22's. The top back of the mag would hit the ejector. I relieved a bit of material just to get the mag inserted. The mag now would fit. I could not get more than 3-4 rounds off before I would get a stove pipe. Tried 4 different rifles with four different high velocity bullets with the same results.
Anyone else have the same experience and any fixes for this problem?

Wow, I saw someone on here selling them and I figured they had been fixed.

I can't believe business members of CGN sell these in good conscience.

Shaving off material in key places can go along way to relieve these issues. Quite the reputation on those mags

I have 2, never had a problem maybe one drum in 3 has a FTF . Works better than my BC steel lips . Send it back and get another

I had some issues with mine at first (hard time locking it in, occasional misfeeds and stovepipes), but it seems to be improving as it wears in. Two Steel Lips make for a cheaper and more reliable way to get fifty rounds into your 10/22, though.

Had nonstop FTF's with my SR22 and this drum mag, I tried the suggested fix here (I had the same bolt markings on the drum as the reviewer)

Still no dice, FTF`s all the time, only bullet that would feed well was the rem golden`s (hate these), with rem golden`s FTF every 4 - 5 rounds. With federal`s or anything else, FTF all the time. I know there is a suggested trimming of the inside of the drum neck, but have not tried this yet.

I have `forced` over 200+ rounds through this to see if breakin was an issue... did zip .

Have to give this expensive drum mag 2 thumbs down (atleast when used in 10/22`s).

how much you want for it ?

i have one for my AR conversion kit but then i have alot of problems Failure to feed and the rounds dont come up to the bolt so miss fires bs like that at the beginning i had couple fun times then after that it just went down the road

Haven't had too much luck with mine. Much prefer the BC steel lips.
I've heard Blazer ammo works well in them though. Federal seems to work well for me if I let it sit loaded (the magazine, not the gun) overnight before using it. Probably a spring issue on mine.

I phoned the dealer and told them about the issues with the mag and what I had to do to be able to get it into the gun. They told me that they have not heard of any problems, then later said that a few SR's have issues with these mags then later said that the mags may need to be tuned a bit, then said to take a picture of the area of the mag that I had filed to get it into the gun. THANKS FOR THE HELP! I phoned Black dog and they said to relieve some spring tension off the drum and try again.

Black Dog Drum Mags/Troubles

Just received two 50 rnd, 10/22 Black Dog Machine Drum Mags.
The first one, the neck was so tight I couldn't even get it loaded.
The second one loaded, with a bit of work, but then wouldn't lock up in the Rifle. Had to open action to get magazine in gun. Then action would'nt slide forward.
Waiting for store to get back to me. In the small print of invoice it reads
" ALL SALES ARE FINAL". This from a sponsor of CGN.
I have plans to sand off the parts of the neck that are binding. But why should we have to do this in the first place. Where's the quality control by Black Dog.
Given the time back I would have bought four B.C. Steel Lip 25 rounders.
Can't say I would tell people to run out and get one just because they look cool.

did the spring issue go away? i think i have the same problem

Have not tried it out yet but will post when I do. If you look when inserting the mag that the back of the feed lip may have to be filed down so it does not hit the ejector which will also cause the bolt to drag on the lips.

I have put about 800rnds through mine with almost no issues, 3 ftfs from the lot. Mine is a lucky one I guess. I run fed bulks and rem golden bullet(which I hate as well), but they seem to work for me in this drum. This is my main shooter and can spend the whole day with it.

I have two for my smith mp15-22 and they run flawlessly.. very impressed. I have run hundreds of rounds with no problems.. but the mp15-22 seems to never jam.

Backed the spring tension off and still stovepipes. Tightened the tension real tight and still stovepipes. The factory mag and a B.C mag have both over a 1/8" of clearance between the ejector and the backend of the mag. The B.D. mag has no clearance at all. So out came the file and I took off 1/8" of material from the back of the B.D mags left rear feed lip. I had on had some federal low velocity target rounds so I set the mags spring tension at the manufactures recomondation and loaded 50 rounds. Was able to get 36 rounds off before a spent case failed to clear the ejection port. I repeated this several times till I went through 300 rounds. The stove pipes dissapeared. I did have several failures of spent casses to clear the ejection port. I am hoping that some high velocity rounds will solve this problem. A excellent improvement in mag functioning.
