Black/green rifles to be prohibited soon???

btw, does anyone know if the g-3s that came out of isreal were restricted at the time- i know the fns were,as were the uzis and stens, and all the pistols, but the m14s were not- which went straight to prohibited with no restricted status- which was kind of stupid, considering the gov't had no idea of where they went unless the owner VOLENTEERED the information

The M-14 went prohibited in 1978 will the full-autos .... A few of them were "converted" to semis so they were around until 12(3) got rid of the converted autos.

people have thousands of dollars invested in their guns..
It's like forking over 5,000-10,000$ or even 50,000$ of your heard earned money.... to the police.. you might as well write them a check!

man that would really suck.

So true, I have a few large frame revolvers, and I easily have 4,000 invested in S&Ws and Colts alone.

I am not counting my semi-auto pistols or rifles either. And within this other class, I have a Polytech with alot of old M14 add ons, and a Voere 2185 semi-auto hunting rifle in 30-06.(!$$$$!)

I doubt they will ever exercise another SPAS12/FAMAS type confiscation again - it has been many years ago. Such seizure without compensation, with the use of police resource, is NOT politically acceptable anymore.

x1
The perception becomes, if they can take his gun....well, they can just take anything they want. I would think gun owners and non-gun owners alike would loath a government that started that insanity.

I just got a call today from a close friend whom is a source for his brothers nephews cousin.

as of january 1, 2009 all restricted weapons will be grandfathered, so you better own one of everything to get all the different classes before then.

That, my friend, is the biggest pile of steaming dog crap I have read in quite some time, and I read the Toronto Star!

There are no changes, to the status of restricted firearms or restricted licenses coming. NONE. NADA. ZIP. ZERO.

In case you haven't noticed, we currently have a gun friendly federal government. They have introduced legislation to undo the registry. They have enacted amnesty after amnesty for long guns. The only firearms laws which have been passed have introduced minimum sentences for criminals who use guns in the commission of indictable offenses. There is NO LAW coming into effect January 1 2009 related to firearms. NONE. PERIOD. END OF STORY.

Dude, it was sarcasm.

what i want to know is if the gov't had anything on the g3 converted semis that came over from isreal when they sent those "surplus arms- basically, it went like this- you went into the local gun store and said, i'll take the fn, uzi, sten or whatever-and you went the restricted route just like you did for a pistol- if you selected an m14 convert, however, you just paid for the thing and walked out with it in a case- no trips to the police involved, and it was the same as any regular long gun as far as the government was concerned- basically, what i'm asking is was the g3 convert a restricted at the time?-

I'm guessing here, but what's the barrel lenght on these things ?

a g3 is roughtly the same as a h&k 91- somewhere about 20 inches- i remember when this container hit about 1990 or so- lots of uzis. stens, fn( with the fun switch) and some stuff they had captured from the egyptians, i think- basically, imi had a garage sale- all the stuff was moded to be acceptable to canada customs and complied with the firearms act at the time- and the wolesalers paid roughly a dime on the dollar for it- that is an uzi was 500 bucks, and paid 50 bucks for it- well, when the registration for these things hit( at that time they were the same as a pistol)-the powers that be got very scared- we just CAN'T have an ALTERED MACHINE GUN in the hands of joe q citizen- but there was NO LEGISLATION TO COVER it, so it was classed as either a handgun, or in the case of a long arm, as a NON-RESTRICTED rifle- the fn was already restricted, so no problem there -it's the same as a pistol- but the m14 had no such restriction, as it wasn't released to canada before the isrealis did-what i want to know is if those g3s were registered, or simply"fell through the crack" same as the m14?- of course, this is all a moot point now- all the 14s are registered

If I had to guess, since M14's, like FN-FAL's, came from the factory both as semi as well as full auto flavors, the 14 fell thru the cracks .... Now the last time the CONSERVATIVES were in power, under Kim Campbell's leadership (if anything it should teach every Canadian a lesson about the dangers of having a (granted, unelected) western PM), they "sorted the whole mess out" in a way by declaring every "converted-auto" prohib .... Yeah, I'm one of those guys that trust politicians of any flavor about as much as I trust a starving, wounded, black bear whom is coming right at me .... It just HAS to be friendly, like a dog, right ??? I'm being gentle here, my opinion of the very concept of a political "party" is a whole lot less "understanding" ....

And since there was no physical difference between F/A and S/A M14's, except for adding the fun switch (which didn't come from the factory but could be added later on by anyone who felt like it and got hold of the parts), it became politically convenient to lump the whole mess into a single category ....

Lemme ask you this : Why are there 12(3) Steyr AUG's out there, but no 12(4) despite the fact that there was such a thing as a semi-auto version ?

If you'd think that 12(4)'s were pretty much all seized and destroyed, without compensation, except for a select few who'se owners went to court over the matter and won, you'd be right .... I know of some people who got their 12(3)'s "grandfathered" and got their 12(4)'s seized, putting them tens of thousands of dollars in the hole in the process ... Sometimes it just plain sucks when your shooting buddy is the local police chief so registry or not, they know you have it ...

but the m14 had no such restriction, as it wasn't released to canada before the isrealis did-what i want to know is if those g3s were registered, or simply"fell through the crack" same as the m14?- of course, this is all a moot point now- all the 14s are registered
