black oxide blueing Pics added

You did not prep the surface on that gun didn't you.......?

the surface prep does 80% of the job.........the solution makes about 20%.........

a beadblasted reciever would have ended up looking bran new !

That is correct simonyzer,
I only buffed the old blueing off
at this time i have no place to sandblast :(
When i do my shotgun i will go all out
i was only interested in the quality of the solution on the first gun
It was a old m95 mauser but it was all i had that i wasn't too woried about screwing up :D

Ok I just finished blueing my 870 :D
I went down to the local small engine repair shop and borrowed their bead blaster
I will post pics soon

I use Tool Black sold by KBC Tools. It is non toxic works in minutes, wipe on or dip. An inexpensive alterative to black oxide. No special equipment or ventilating. Imparts a tough dull black protective finish on ferrous metals. www.kbctools.com
Outlets in Toronto, Windsor and Vancouver.

Ok here's the pic of the 870 i promised :D

Not yet this is the black oxide from Caswell Plating
It's true the sandblasting makes a world of difference :D
I ordered the electroless nickle plateing kit and I am going to try it on an old H&R revolver i have :D

What size electroless nickle plating kit did you get ... enough for all of us I hope?

Here's a $64 question ..... do you expect the new kit to be better than the black oxide kit that you used on the 870? Your 870 looks excellent and it is almost hard to imagine better than what you have now.

:D

how durable is the finish when you oil it. does it run much?

I prefer that look to the look of parkerising anyday.

Is the solution thick at all. I have a few dings in my BAR that I want to hide, would it cover them better than bluing? I ,m hoping it might pool a little in the small holes or micro cracks?

let me know if you could.

the shottie looks amazing.

Maybe when you get time you can let us know the steps you followed to get the good results for the shotgun.
