Black powder cannon

I used to help out as part of a gun crew on a 3 pounder all brass field piece dated from around 1770, we shot chain shot ....which is awsome!! cut a waist high 3 ft wide swath down through an alder patch with it ...didnt stop till it wraped into that big ol spruce tree, and tryed out grapshot on a packing crate blew er to toothpicks....then there was the balls ....well they ricochied to much so we shot cement filled slugs through her they work real well and dont go that far if they hit a rock or somthing down range ......Full scale is a blast :D
 
1 pounder, 1.7" bore, shoots a 1lb lead ball (mold is originally for a small downrigger ball). She's made of 12L14 ordnance steel, and weighs about 130lbs. Have a set of Amish made wheels and some mahogany for a chassis, haven't started that project yet.

Loyalist arms here in Nova Scotia is selling some Canadian made, live cannon, very well made, and Historicly correct full scale, swivel guns, sea service models, and field guns, I think anything from a 3 pounder to a 12 pounder, if I ever feel rich anough I'll get my self a 3 pounder swivel gun....then me and a buddy whos into boats will have to build a long boat to go with it, set sail and plunder the coast from Halifax to Yarmouth :D.
 
The Loyalist arms cannons don't look very good if you are into historically correct cannons (my opinions from the pics I saw on their website). CRA makes faithfull copies of historical guns from quarter scales models to full scale 32 pounders fortress guns... Personally, I like the small British 3 pounders as it is very easy to move around!

My .75" bore gun shoots a .715 lead ball out of a 12ga. shot cup over 150gr. of Pyrodex select and the barrel flies about 10 ft. Just sandbagging the barrel lets me hit 2ftx2ft targets at 50m.
 
I have shot a 4" bore. It is bronze, about 6 feet long. Powder charge we used was a half pound. It wpuld put a complete set of wooden croquet balls into low earth orbit and set off car alarms a half mile away....
