Black powder Deer Rifle (help)

I currently hunt big game animals with a compound (my first true love), a crossbow (my back up for archery season) a shotgun, and a rifle, and I will soon be adding an in-line muzzleloader to that list. The reason? For more oppotunities to hunt. I enjoy my time in the bush, and any available opportunity regardless of weapon to get out there I will try to capitilize on. I am going to buy a T/C, maybe the Pro Hunter, maybe the Encore. This will be .50 caliber, I will use 777 pellets, 209 primers, and a SCOPE. It is legal, ethical, and I will shoot way better than with a flint lock, loose black powder, and a patch and ball.

But thats just me, don't question me and I won't question you.

Its only my opinion, no need to get so defensive guys. I still have the right to have one...I think. Hunt with what you like, its MY personal choice to not use an inline. I'm stating that opinion not trying to force it on anyone else so relax.

Relax? Do I need to quote you again? Your opinion was dismissive and your language was argumentative, AND you definitely called inline shooters rule breakers and greedy.

Defensive? You betcha! I will defend any legal means of hunting against anyone who spouts off with the kind of nonsense you have regurgitated on this thread. Not one in-line shooter or anyone else on this thread was dismissive of or critical of traditional shooters period.

Do you honestly think that drivel you posted above is going to deflect our criticism of your sickening attitude towards other legal hunters? We have long memories and you need to rethink your response.:runaway:

Buy a .54 caliber flinter. I know where one is for sale. :D Seriously though, 45 cal and up is a must for deer sized game. IMO inlines should not be allowed for use in controlled BP hunts. Its not that I am a traditionalist but I believe these hunts were meant to be a primitve weapon hunt and using an inline with a scope that can accurately shoot sabots out to 150 yards was not in the spirit of what these hunts were intended for. Almost seems like cheating, might as well use a big bore ruger #1 or a cross bow in archery season.

What a load of B-U-N-K !!

Ont's MNR has NEVER done anything to make a particular hunting season such as you suggest " I believe these hunts were meant to be a primitve weapon hunt"

The controlled hunt is simply a method to lower the pop numbers of a deer herd that is to large in a heavily populated area! The safer way to do it is Bow hunting or ML's.

Really...please explain why I will be hunting a muzzleloading season one week after rifle season jut ended in the same area? It has nothing to do with safety in the area I will hunt.

Actually Red just you I have a problem with.:dancingbanana: I guess with 8000 threads you wouldn't have time to learn to shoot a flinter anyway. Now you can go back to doing some more message board bullying...your dismissed.:runaway:

In Manitoba the season was lobbied by and started for the traditionalists. Yes we have them to thank for our muzzleloader season. We used to get one tag for archery, and if you didn't fill it you could turn it in and get a rifle tag etc. The Deer numbers are up so now you can get a tag for each season, and even an extra doe tag. It has now come to the point of trying to keep the numbers down. Our regular season has seen a drop in tags sold for the past few years, and an increase in muzzleloader tags. It is the result of a simpler inline rifle to use, and less hunters, and better weather. I do not like inlines, and would never own one, but they are here to stay, and I hunt with people that use them. To each his own.

Would it be considered "coming out of the closet" and "swinging both ways" to say that I very much enjoy shooting both in-lines & sidelocks???

To date: 2x inlines
2x sidelocks

As for the statement above that in-lines enable one to shoot more accurately than a side lock I beg to differ. A buddy put together a traditions kit and I have seen him shoot a 50 --4 X on a target using a 1 inch X and 2 inch 10 ring. 100 yards . Non adjustable sights.

Our local club openned our yearly shoots to any and all muzzleloaders and have yet to have anyone with other than a traditional side lock win.

That said individual shooters may find a scoped in line suits them. To each his own. This is especially true when aging makes the use of open sights more difficult.
