I don't get it. Rifles that are for sale here in Canada in my opinion are way out of wack. Pretty much most of the mid to high end rifles are priced about $1000 more than the US. I have a good friend of mine who lives in AZ and he tells me that rifle sales has dropped big time and now they can't give them away. I understand that dealers here need to survive but can they not adjust their prices alittle so people won't buy across the border.
My two cents

yea I have noticed as well i have even seem places that remove the oem accessories u would get with it and then try and sell them to u seperate

Same here

That was my walmart price check thread from last month. Wacky pricing.
COLTS for $1050 @ walmart, $1900+ HERE.

Oh well. Buyers have a choice.

Not seeing that much of a difference after looking at a few sites, and good luck buying black rifles across the border.....

Small market, items have to cross the border and higher operating costs. This subject has been beaten to death. Most items are only marginally more expensive, it's only when you get in to the specialty items that you see the big gap in prices.

It is not the dealers that are causing the high prices, it is the taxes and tarrifs that accumulate when they are imported.

Unfortunately it isn't just guns, its everything in Canada. Car prices, groceries, home goods, electronics.. I think it started when our dollar was .70 cents, and since its gone up they haven't readjusted to the current value of our dollar.

Maybe I Run Guns is the answer.

Depends what it is and how much you're saving. By buying through a Canadian dealer you also gain access to the warranty network established through the Canadian distributor. For something like an AR this really isn't an issue if you're OK with working on it yourself should something go wrong, but for other items, going through an importer rather than retail channels could end up being a nightmare if parts/service is required.

I have gone through this process and to be fair the savings outweighs this problems and the hassles have been minimal in most circumstances if not all....

How true. You would think we were a third world country located on another planet the way prices are in this country. We need someone in the media to do a story on this so we can all learn the truth about this sh!t.

As I said, it depends on the item and how much savings is involved. I wouldn't hesitate to get an AR this way, or a hard to get black rifle (FS2000) but wouldn't get a Leupold scope brought up from the U.S.

Let's list the hurdles you have to face as importer.
1. Export permit process takes a few weeks if not a couple of months.
2. Each permit is only good for up to 50 rifles at a time.
3. As a foreign purchase most manufactures wants money upfront, potentially your money will most likely be tied up for months, unless you have a money tree in your backyard. You will need some healthy margin to pay the employees and keep the lights on.
4.with the limitation of quantity, that means you will never be able to enjoy the volume discount that most U.S. retailers can get.
5. Low volume also means you get bumped a lot.

So if think you can do better, please help your fellow CGN'ers out.

Good luck buying across the border and getting it over here.

The reason the prices are what they are is that there are too many people in Canada that have enough money to buy it, and do buy it no matter how ridiculous the price is.
If you were a retailer would you lower your price just because you can even though the item is selling as fast as you can bring them in? No, you wouldn't. That would be stupid and you would make less money.
If you want prices to go down we all need to stop buying for a while and make it a buyers market instead of a sellers market.
Just look at our own EE for examples. Rifles going for more than retail prices on some of the harder to find high demand ones. Is it the seller or the buyer that is the problem? Of course both but mostly it's the guys paying the inflated prices that create the market and therefore the problem you are complaining about. If no one bought the rifle you would watch the price drop every week until it was 20% below retail then someone would snatch it up. Why do you think there are so many rifles for sale with zero rounds? Because someone though they could make a quick buck.

This has been beaten to death. Tune in next week for the next why is it cheaper in the States thread.
