blackfeather stock arrived!

I have a brand new rifle and stock. Barely 20 rounds through it. I'll post some targets once I have a hundred rounds through her.

Tell you right now its more accurate then I am.

Yeah. That is how it is advertised. Some more user reviews would really give it a lot more cred. I would like to hear your experiences when you get to the 100 round mark.

Am I right to assume that the handguard rail will only work in conjunction with the Blackfeather op rod guide?

No, the M14.ca SHG hand guard will work with a Blackfeather "RS" and as a "stand alone" rail for any M305/M1A/M14 with a standard contour barrel. You do not need a Blackfeather for this rail to work on your rifle.

Hey Frank, the hand guard looks great. How does it attach to the rifle?

I'm with yomma - when does your muzzle brake arrive. I see some lonely SEI Navy brakes but I'm resisting for now.

Any plans to make a full length rail that allows for magnified optics as well?

Not at this time, however, there are still 39 M14 projects on the official project listing going forward. Items lile the SHG/LMB and an extended rail CASM GEN II "EX" are due to release soon. I was out shooting the LMB on the weekend and it performs. The CASM "EX" will add slightly more rail length for Eotech/Magnifier combo and allow Acogs to be seated further back over the receiver heal. What you are seeing in the SHG is the lowest hand guard made with the ability to seat 10/2 o'clock 4" rails. It is nearly as low as your M14s front receiver ring. The SHG is also indexed to the Blackfeather oprod guide, an advantage for Blackfeather owners that allows for simpler installation and optical alighment of the rail over the barrel. The SHG is also ready for the M14.ca ORC (op rod charger) so the SHG brings some unique new features to the platform for a rail of this type. I am looking forward to it in 2013.

I assume this hand-guard will co-witness a red-dot sight with the M14s iron sights just like the Ultimak rail?

Any red dot? No. No M14 fore arm rail can do that. Some red dots, maybe. The Aimpont T1/H1? An Aimpoint T1/H1 was not available for testing range day Sunday and iron sights were not installed on my rifle. I will acquire one however and determine if it will co-witness with standard M14 iron sights. I am not sure when this answer will be posted for you.

SHG Weight???

My scale won't go that low. I will guess 300 grams but it should come in lower due to efficient scalloping on the underside and the left side charging handle opening. I will have exact weight posted once this item is commited to production and is shipping in its final form. I cannot comment on the TRS25, but yes, it is lower than the UTG rail.

The Ultimak will co-witness the m14 iron sights with an Aimpoint Micro, Bushnell TRS-25, Vortex Spark or an Aimpoint COMP ML2/ML3 or Vortex Strike Fire on a very low 30mm ring (So low that the reddot bezel is almost touching the rail)

Also, you should pick up a Bushnell TRS-25 for testing. It simulates an Aimpoint micro very well at one fourth the price.

TRS-25 on the right.
Aluminum housing, Nitrogen Filled interior, just like the Aimpoint. Also has a built in picitinny rail mount. Only $150

Thanks for that posting. I appreciate that. There is another perspective on co-witnessing the Ultimak in this thread at M14forum. The side rails on the SHG hand guard allow you to place your Blackfeather 4 inch picatinny rails onto the SHG at the 10 o'clock and the 2 o'clock positions (yes, they are the same as those on the Blackfeather). The rails are also removable without having to remove the entire SHG handguard.

Are those rail slots on the side of the hand guard? Just like the ones on the Blackfeather?
