Blackhawk Serpa for events?

Where there's a holster there's a way of shooting yourself. The Serpa holster doesn't cause the AD's, but it does contribute to them happening. It exacerbates the problem of people putting their finger on the trigger. I cringe every time I see someone using one of these holsters. IMHO holsters should not require finesse to use safely.

So what would you guys recommend?

I have a Serpa, which people tell me not to use.

I have a Fobus, which people tell me not to use.

And I'm left-handed. Which means there are no ITAC, no Sig. I don't want a race holster like Ghost. And I haven't been able to find a lefty Blade-Tech. Any suggestions?

Be honest Colin how many times have you given yourself a wedgy with the Serpa. That I have seen more than one.

For playing the games there are far better holsters out there than the Serpa without the tab that are faster to draw from and for most, much safer.

Personally I don't give a rats behind if somebody on his own puts a bullet in his leg using one just not on my range or in my sport. The ramifications go beyond a sore leg and I suspect this is the reason why so many instructors and ranges have banned the Serpa.

thinking, thinking, thinking.........nope. Missed a few draws, but you get in the quick habit of pushing down and re-orienting the finger again.

Having watched quite few officers fumble with their level 3 holsters, I can only laugh at the fine motor skill argument. Considering also the consequences of a loaded firearm coming out of the holster and going off in a washroom or a crowded mall, I suspect the positive locking system as saved a few lives and a lot of court time.

( I realize modern guns should not go off, but... Also just having your gun drop onto the floor can create serious legal issues for you in certain states)

Order direct from Blade Tech. They ship to Canada direct. I would ask you not to use your Serpa in IDPA. Your call though.

The Fobus will do you OK until your Blade Tech arrives.

Here are some pictures I took of my Serpa holsters and 4 guns. I will concede that the .45 1911 holster can lead to finger on the trigger, mind you this is a "Sports holster" and is a very early generation, so the design may have changed. I really like the M&P and the 226 versions. The 229 due to the design of the grips has a flare that actually forces your finger away from the trigger. There may be newer versions out there, I would have to take the paddles off to see the revision numbers.

I suspect that Serpa is a victim of it's own success, there are a lot of Serpa's out there, so it will be involved in more N/D's. sort of like saying the most common car in an accident is a Honda civic, therefore Honda civics are more dangerous. I also don't see people banning Glocks despite the fact that they have been involved in a lot of N/D's.

If Serpa's are so dangerous I doubt they would still be sold in the US as the liability risks would be to high.

Madness did he shoot himself pulling the gun out or putting it in?

on the draw, bullet went thru the holster into his leg an stopped just above the knee.
I see far more Blade-Techs then Serpas at matches, never heard any stories of AD's with them

Blade tech have to be one of the two most popular holsters in IDPA along with Comp Tec and neither to my knowledge have been involved with any significant amount of AD's and both are allowed at Gunsite something the Serpa is not.

I'm just happy my #### hasn't fallen off yet. Mind you, our game(s) with the military teams / shooters/soldiers/ sailors does not have a round chambered (ever) so the pistol is cleared before holstering! :D And of course we carry the pistol in the holster 'unloaded'. Kinda solves that Serpa ND/AD issue now!

 and stay safe!

What no condition 2 carry?!

Would a blackhawk Sportster serpa holster be compliant for both leagues? Thanks

Yes. Definitely not my first choice, but totally compliant. As noted, there is no need for any retention in either sport.

As far as ADs, as long as you aren't a tactitool operator like tex, you should be fine. The gun will only go bang if you pull the trigger. Now simply having your finger in the trigger guard when you are not on target is the same as pulling it on purpose. It is RETARDED.

E. Must hold the firearm with enough tension to allow the
wearer to complete normal daily tasks without fear of losing
the weapon.

when i say no retention i mean no active retention. i suppose a snug fit is more of a "passive retention" but still retention. ok you win. hahaha.

I was at my club last evening when a group of OPP were finishing up training. I noted that several officers were carrying Level 3 Serpas for their service side arm. Interesting. I would have thought that since they are so dangerous that the OPP would have banned them. Things that make me go HMMMMM.

Depends on what pistol you are using. I will be selling a brand new left-handed Bladetech DOH for a CZ Sp-01/Shadow (my wife was thinking about shooting southpaw but decided against it)

If you have a shadow send me a PM.

If not, Bladetech will ship to Canada and they make a holster for pretty much any commonly used pistol.
