Blacktail on the Islands

Ya crazy kuss.............should of gone with Ernie a while back.
Sounds like he had a good time and did well.
Bring an umbreller and rain gear.
Life jacket too.
Just can't imagine trying to start a fire with all that humidity and RAIN.

Good luck................

I have a three pt hanging around my place at the moment trailing a doe and fawn over the past days. Need him to come into the shooting zone in the morning but he likes to show when dark only. If I can nail him this year will be complete. I saw him once in the morning at 8:20 but by the time I parked and walked back with Monsieur Wingmaster, he had skidaddled.

Your just in time for the QCI Rust Festival.
It starts Sept.1and runs until Aug.31...
Stanza way had some experience there and some great success .
Rubber gear is mandatory and a SS gun goes a long way too.
Bush is thick and deer are smallish.
Reynolds sound (if the road is open ) has a good concentration of deer.
IIRC, there is a G/O season on Elk as well, but do not have the regs with me at the moment.
Sounds like an interesting trip.
Tight Groups,
Rob

Still a few big sitkas left on the Islands. My 11 year old shot this one yesterday along a road on Graham Island.

Just because I like stirring up controversy.... .223 neck shot :p

In Ontario, "possession" means in your custody... possession limits include what is on your premises (in the freezer) at your primary residence.
There is an obscure rule/limit for the QCI , but being at work right now I can not find it.
****adendum...15 deer of which only 5 in possession...be it in camp or at home five only at any time.
The locals always seem to see more than the visitors.
Elk are bull only in 6-13 till Nov.14.

This is a dream hunt for me, id like to complete my deer slam but my buddy from van island moved here to alberta so I no longer have a hunter host in BC. If anyone is will to host me I would gladly host you here in Alberta. Keeping everything legal of course.
We looked at going to the char islands before. Seems the ferry is very exspensive but a really great place to visit and hunt

Good luck on the elk in QCI hehehe
I know guys that live there that don't even bother due to the simply ridiculous terrain those elk have decided to live in. The Pontoons I think they call it. Now, steelhead fishing the tlell and yakoun, now we're talkin fun times.

I think we have QCI pencilled in for next year and looks like a 2 week trip this time around so we can do more fishin.
We had all our success on the north east tip, east of old masset. Naaikoon/tow hill area and the beaches/forest beyond.

BwanaDave........could you recommend a good hotel in Rupert, we'll be needing one with a 10 AM sailing, best to arrive on Wed for the Thur sailing. And if you have time I'd be happy to buy you a beer and pick your brain for the evening, hell I'll buy you dinner AND some beers.

You guys aren't going to believe this but I will be using a 300 WSM for them...............Only 100% stainless/fiberglass rifle I have in a suitable caliber, my others are a 300 RUM, a 204 Ruger and my heavy barrel 22-250 so I guess it's the 300 WSM using 150 gn TTSX. I know, I know I have way more suitable cartridges but from what I hear of the weather I better stick with 100% SS and FG or plastic. Besides what if a bull Rosie decides to stumble out on a logging road in front of me...........I don't want to be holding my 22-250 or 204 in my hands now do I? I guess I could drop my 257 Bee into my 300 Rum plastic stock, but then I'd have to resight it, besides the 300 WSM should kill them just fine and it weighs less than 6 lbs.......and is completely impervious to the weather. It was specifically built for sheep and goat country where one never knows what the weather may bring..........25 C, a week of rain or 6" of snow sometimes..........

You'll blow those poor deer in 1/2 with a 300wsm hehehe
I'd go for the 22-250 , perfect.
I took a .308 last trip and even with very well placed shots.... 150gr 30 cal federal power shok was , well, far more than adequate LOL

Doug, the Crest hotel is the spot, if no vacancy try the inn on the harbour. I'll shoot you a pm with my phone #. I'm 300 yds from the ferry terminal and youre welcome to hang your head here for the night if you prefer.

the 300wsm will be just fine.

I saw a bunch of blacktail deer for the first time when I was on Vancouver Island recently.

They were the size of a Great Dane, and seemed quite tame. I'm sure they're delicious.

From the size of the deer I saw, a 223 SP hunting bullet would be a slam dunk I think. I've seen wolves up here that were definitely bigger than those deer. If I end up on the Island, my Mini14 might be my first choice for deer hunting. I've got some .224 GameKings I've been waiting to try in that gun.
