Bladetech DOH IPSC compliance

So.... if some of you guys are worried about the DOH thing you can try this to move the grip closer to your body. I don't have issues with the distance due to my body type, but I wanted a little straighter draw angle on my gun.

All you need is a piece of Dollar Store pool noodle and some Velcro tape. Cut the pool noodle to your desired thickness and Velcro to your heart is content. The foam pushes the holster away from your thigh and moves the grip closer to your body. At least it does for me.:)

I did all kinds of drills with it today, including 25 yard runs, and it doesn't move.

I removed my drop/offset after the BC match where it was found to be non-compliant. Without it I found it very uncomfortable to retrieve the gun from what felt like just under my armpit. Gorilla arms, I guess. Doable, but unpleasant.

I found that I was able to bend the drop with a regular heat gun, but it took a bit of time and care. I bent it until the 2 sections are parallel with each other and then reinstalled the drop. However, with it pulled in like that, there is now not enough room between the top of the offset and my safety to get my thumb into position on the draw. After a few minutes of head scratching, I was able to re-position the offset and holster to some of the different mounting holes and that solved the problem. It works very well now and is totally compliant.

I am currently at the Alberta Provincials in Brooks and the compliance checks are going on here for those holsters as well this weekend. I have seen some of the other shooters using a piece of foam, as in the previous post, stuck between holster and leg for a temporary fix.

I will post some pictures after I get back to BC to show how I solved the problem.

I was forced to remove my DOH attachment of my holster at a level 3 two years ago because of this rule. a female competitor on my squad was also forced to do the same. other, lets say "larger" shooters with the same equipment did not have this issue. Its a rule that can punish you for being skinny.

I don't get it?
You bought a holster that doesn't 'properly' place the pistol at the correct distance and your punished for your decision?

It all kind of comes back around to the shooter being misinformed or not having the information correctly interpreted.
I use a ghost holster that has multiple ways to adjust the distance/drop.
Have i been called on gear? Well never for my holster, my mags did work forward of my hip bone.
Quick slide of the pouchs back and i was legal. I don't consider it being punished if i was trying to keep my mags as close to forward as possible and didn't make the cut.

This holster has been used by top competitors at numerous world shoots with zero compliance issues, and as per the post on Global Village, the rule isn't meant to be enforced with an iron rod.

One of the issues I have with this conversation is the whole notion.. of .. "oh, we don't enforce that rule strictly".. The rule book certainly has enough rules to overwhelm most.. the last thing we need is a set of section\region\whatever "interpretations" on top of the rules. all we need to do is enforce them as written, no extra "oh, but they really meant this".. In this case.. "perhaps" the rules should be revised to measure to the belt as 5.2.7.2 does.. My other favourite is 10.2.8 where some RO's "interpret" where\how you can hold\brace your other arm against your body..

That might be so, but the other day Pinto posted an update about the leeway he'd allow.

yes he did, and a 20% allowance would have most people fit, another option would be to simply name the BT DOH as an approved holster with it's factory drop as it's probably the most used holster of that style on the market. I should note, I use a DAA PDR Pro holster, so this is all a none issue for me

I got nailed at a match, again, very distracting when you are trying to get your mental game down...then you have 4 ROs looking at your holsters like if you were a criminal and make comments like 'I thought you were in the Open division'.
Quite frustrating, my solution, was removing the DOH. As a matter of fact, I have over $100 invested in different DOH makes, one is made of aluminum. None of them are legal for me (I did not know at the time).

This rule needs to be addressed or removed because it is completely based on personal interpretation and body shape. You can't simply go around buying gear to find it illegal afterwards...

It just does not make any sense whatsoever.

Strange they would they they say "I thought you were in the Open division", it would not matter as all divisions have the 50mm rule. Sounds like they need to spend more time learning the rules than nick picking other peoples gear.

The rule 5.2.5.2 States: Any competitor who fails the foregoing test prior to the Start Signal will be required to immediately adjust his holster or allied equipment to comply with the requirements of the relevant Division. The Range Master may make allowances for variations in these requirements due to anatomical considerations. Some competitors may not be able to fully comply.

So the way I see it: " The Range Master may make allowances for variations in these requirements due to anatomical considerations. Some competitors may not be able to fully comply." Means if the competitor is a beanpole and doesnt have something crazy going on like a block of wood bolted between his holster and the belt clip he is good to go regardless if he is over the 50mm.

I got caught with this on provincials. I also tried the double alpha drop holster and couldn't get it compliant without blocking the bottom of the holster between my leg. I'll be putting a ben stoeger boss hanger on my bladetech holster sometime soon. I hear this makes it compliant.

No! Wait....did you just say in IPSC they should consider the spirit of the rule and not have everything black and white? Are you actually saying there is a grey area?

Making the DOH an approved holster would be cool. How do we make that happen?

I don't know that it could be done, but asking your SC to ask our RD to ask the world body would be how it has to go.

I bought the daa pdr pro holster and it did not work for me. Because of my body type I've spent hundreds of dollars on holsters. I just fit the boss hanger to my blade tech and was easily able to get under 50mm. If anyone else just can't find a holster that works for them I highly recommend the boss hanger from Ben stoegers pro shop.

you must have bought the old style PDR Pro, with the new one I can make the grip of my gun touch my side if I wanted to. It now has a ball joint style adjustable hanger with an adjustable drop as well. Completely different than the first version

I have the new one. Just couldn't get it to work.

Had one of them(DAA) show up at a match today, serious readjustment required. height and distance from body were both an issue.
